Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosy Unzueta Pritchett.
Hi Rosy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As the owner of Fitness Vitality LLC®, I have over 30 years of experience providing clients with a pathway to improve their health through physical exercise and redirecting nutritional habits to strengthen the body and soul from within. I was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, and moved to Dallas, Texas in 1991. I owned my first gym in Mexico at the age of 18. It was the first gym in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico that combined dance, weights, and Aerobics training. What started as a dream with 1 student successfully grew to 50+ students in six months.
As life went by, my father suffered from heart disease, my mother developed Parkinson’s, and one of my twins has cerebral palsy. With the loss of my parents, I became more determined to dedicate my life to helping those that want to make a change but need help taking the first step. After I moved to the United States 1990, I was teaching fitness classes for different gyms across DFW. In 2013, I was laid off from my corporate job and decided to re-ignite my passion by opening my own business where the focus would be on helping instead of the bottom line. Fitness Vitality LLC was founded in the same year in September 2013 as a mobile gym. I went to Tarrant County College to get my associate’s on Nutrition Dietetics, and I stay committed to learning through continuing education classes and specialized training certifications, that include boxing to train people with Parkinson’s, diabetes, MS, assist clients with their rehab exercises, and more. I truly believe that exercise and nutrition go hand in hand. My dream is to open a facility so I can provide more opportunities with the specialized equipment needed to help my clients. This would be in parallel with in-home and online training for those that cannot travel due to physical, mental, or monetary challenges.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One word – Pandemic. The 2 ½ years of the Pandemic took its toll on Fitness Vitality like many other companies. With my client base being older and many afflicted by different diseases, meeting in person was simply not possible. In many instances, these people were isolated from family and friends leading to depression. I had to quickly pivot to using MS Teams and pre-recorded videos to train my clients. I had to make a substantial investment in technology, computers, mics, lighting, tripods, and software. For the first year in a half, everyone was separated and using computers and phones for training. I had to invest the time in training my clients on how to use the software on their phones and computers. More importantly, and in many instances, I was simply there to listen and provide comfort. Slowly they were allowed to train in small groups of 3, and now we are back to normal.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Fitness Vitality LLC?
Fitness Vitality LLC works in partnership with those individuals in their 40s and beyond to provide instruction, guidance, encouragement, and body positivity through inspiration and methodology to change their daily routines to live a more fulfilling life. I meet the clients where they are in their stage of life and fitness level. Unlike other gyms and personal trainers, I do not place clients into a box based on age, ethnicity, gender, fitness level, or ailment. Instead, I know that each client is an individual with their own unique situation and story to tell.
I approach my clients with the heart of a teacher. I want to help my clients to understand the “why” of fitness and nutrition. This is done through training classes, discussions, and sharing of knowledge. In the end, I want my clients to come up with their own “why” This may seem simple, yet it is so powerful. Someone that has figured out their “why” will be empowered to share that gift with their family and friends and maybe, just maybe we can set up the next generation to succeed in having a more healthy, happy, and productive life.
Simply, if you see the value in YOUR health, then you know you are worth the INVESTMENT.
What matters most to you? Why?
That my clients stay physically and mentally healthy as long as possible to enjoy their families. Staying healthy places less strain on both the client and their caregivers due to both rising healthcare costs and rising living expenses.
