Thanks for sharing your story with us Samantha. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Skrumpa~Licious Cakes ran as an in-home bakery and was established in Fort Bragg, NC. in 2014. This business took its first steps during a dinner party with close friends. After dinner, I served Carrot Cake Cupcakes, topped with Cream Cheese Icing. My friend’s husband took one bite, looked at me, and said, “You could really make a business out of selling your delicious cupcakes.” Within a week, Skrumpa~Licious Cakes was born. Word spread quickly, and before I could find my footing with cupcakes, customers were asking for custom cakes. Business was great, and this newfound passion for baking and decorating allowed me the luxury to be home with my two children while my husband served in the US Army.
In 2016, my husband was medically retired from the Army. We were forced to make changes, and decide on a new life plan. We decided to move our family to Allen, TX for many wonderful reasons. After moving here, I felt it was important to enter the corporate world to help provide for my family. I was blessed to dive into a few interesting business ventures, but nothing measured up to my dreams of re-opening my bakery full time.
In 2019, I took the plunge of leaving the corporate world and reopening my bakery full time. Skrumpa~Licious offers cupcakes, cake balls, custom cakes, and just recently, we added Wedding Cakes. I am truly living my dream as a small business owner.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road to get where I am today. I have had many challenges in self-teaching myself baking and decoration skills. With every mistake, I took that as a lesson learned and continued to push myself further. I also had to shut down and restart my business three times in the last several years due to Army relocation. When the Army needed my husband to move to another state, we had to pack up and relocate. Primarily this meant I had to start all over with a new customer base.
There were also times that business would be slow, and I would have to seek employment in the corporate world to help financially support my family. I have been blessed with many business ventures that have contributed to important customer service skills needed to run a small business. I firmly believe that I never took a step back, I never failed, but I continued to improve myself and my business design.

Skrumpa~Licious Cakes is a home-based bakery that specializes in Natural Wedding Cakes, Custom Cakes, and Cupcakes serving a minimum of 50 people. We are known for delicious treats and great customer service. We are proud that we have continued to thrive through every twist and turn that life has thrown in our path. We hope to open a storefront within the next few years.
I believe what sets us apart from other cake decorating companies, is our eagerness to know our clients. We enjoy talking with them and learning about their families. We really enjoy sitting down with engaged couples and hearing their story. We have found that the more we know about our clients, the more intimate the cake design can become. We have also met many life long friends through Skrumpa~Licious Cakes because of our standard of customer service.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Our plans for the future consist of opening a storefront within the next few years. While our ideal storefront will be centered around confections, custom cakes, and wedding cakes; our goal is to offer handcrafted coffee-based beverages and cafe-style food.
