Meet Shontala Watson of Big Shon’s Kitchen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shontala Watson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I came to Dallas in the end of 2018. I had left everything behind back home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin it was a big step for me and my family. My family and I came on faith with not enough money no nothing. After trying to find work get a home nothing was working one night me and my husband Devail decided to get out and get some air. We went to Deep ELLUM and I got inspired I seen the taco and corn stands I said to myself “I can do this but how”. The next day I took the little funds I had bought two deep fryers chicken fries and fish. I set up right on the corner of Elm and Crowdus next to the corn stand I took off from there. I sold out in one hour I met some amazing people I also came across many business opportunities on my first night. My faith my family those two deep fryers that corner got me my exposure I have today and I’m truly blessed to be where I am today “Big Shon’s Kitchen”

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh no, it hasn’t been smooth in all honesty. I stamped my business back at home Wisconsin so I was not licensed to do anything in Dallas. I’ve experienced tickets from the fire department police shutdowns you name it. It was like I had to go back to the drawing board I had to figure out all of what I needed to set up in the state of Texas. It was a lot of research calling around to the point I have to get mentored on how to build a business, especially in another state big shout out to Deadria Garrett the owner of “Wealth Transfer Enterprise”. Once I gain the knowledge of being a business owner and learning the do’s and don’ts in business it was take off time again. Here I am with my social media exposures doing caters blessing others with my gift I was blessed with.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a chef not just any chef more like an experience. Meaning when coming in contact with me it will be an experience that you will never forget. I get a lot of questions like “What are my favorite dish to make”? Honestly, I don’t have a favorite dish I can cook everything all culture food I love challenges. I challenge myself in different areas on different levels in the kitchen it’s my passion I love what I do and I spread love through my food.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Big Shon’s Kitchen will be global. I will have restaurants food trucks and much more. I will be in rooms of billionaire’s giving them the experience of my creativity. I say that in the most humblest fearless way.
