Meet Shyne Ink of Shyneink in Arlington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shyne Ink.

Thanks for sharing your story with us. Shyne, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born and raised in Chicago. I’ve been tattooing about seven years now and I’m completely self-taught. I worked at a shop in Chicago for a bit until I decided to branch off as a solo artist. I traveled quite a bit doing guest spots and did a couple of guest spots in Dallas. Being down here made me want to relocate and that’s what I did. I am a proud member of the 1Up Tattoo Studios, the first anime themed, black owned tattoo studio in Dallas.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Initially, it wasn’t smooth because of strict requirements and limited selection of friendly tattoo shops but I worked hard and was finally picked up by a shop. Finding a shop home down here in Texas, however, was much easier because I was further into my tattooing and had more options to choose from but it’s all about the right fit and luckily for me, 1Up Tattoo Studios has been an amazing Tattoo home.

Please tell us about your art.
I specialize in scar coverups and will be adding FTM top surgery scar coverups into my repertoire. Characters, portraits, lettering, coverups, black and gray, color, minimalist, large scale— I can pretty much do it all! I do a ton of drawing so I’m always creating something new.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I wouldn’t have done anything differently, to be honest. Everything happens for a reason and it’s all about timing and my success came when I was ready for it. If it wasn’t for some of the adversities I experienced, I wouldn’t be where I am now: successfully thriving.
