Today we’d like to introduce you to Taurea Vision Avant.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Taurea Vision. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m originally from Hampton, Virginia where I was born and raised. I’m a graduate of Hampton University with a bachelor’s degree in computer science. After my father passed away in 2007, I then moved to Atlanta, GA where I stayed there for ten years. Atlanta absolutely changed my life. It was a journey where I had become a full-time entrepreneur and was able to earn more money than I had ever imagined. However, it didn’t start off that way. Prior to me moving to Atlanta, I tried so many businesses and was really quick at quitting them. I could never find something that I felt was my calling. It wasn’t until watching my father pass away that I made the decision to stop using that as an excuse and stay focused even when things didn’t seem to be going right. Atlanta definitely was an incredible stepping stone for me however after ten years of being there, I knew that it was time for me to move.
I moved to Houston, Texas a week after Hurricane Harvey. A lot of people ask me why I moved and my answer most of the time is because I wanted to. LOL! We have to stop always feeling the need to justify our actions to others. It was myself and my sister who made that Journey from Atlanta Georgia to Houston. In fact, we were supposed to move that weekend when the storm touched down. A lot of people would have seen that as a reason to not come, but for me, I saw it as a reason to come. I personally feel like if you are not needed where you are then you must find a place to be needed. That is the meaning of life. Well at least to me. If that meant that we would come and help those families who were affected by the storm, then we would.
To keep a long story short, I started my coaching business back in 2014 and continued it here in Houston where I have helped more than 2,000 + entrepreneurs to become authors, speakers and coaches. It was at the beginning of 2019, I also decided it was time to create a movement that would most definitely be my legacy. I started the Urban CEO Network which is a non-profit organization with the goal of bridging the gap of men and women from the urban community and business. No matter your background, we accept you. I like to say that “Its a thin line between the pole and the platform”. I could have made different choices in life easily and been in a totally different place. I also know how it feels to be a person in a room where the language is completely foreign. Corporate or Business language to a man or woman from the urban community may not always make sense. Also, I know how it feels to be overwhelmed with all the “opportunities” available because it seems like it’s too hard to complete. For me, for the last 10+ years, I have literally bootstrapped my business only to find out that I could have had help along the way. My goal is to change that and also to show men and women from the urban community that no matter where you come from and no matter your background, the opportunity for success in business and life is available to us all.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For anyone to think that success in LIFE is a smooth road needs to stop watching Disney Channel. Shucks to think of it, even Disney movies show the challenges that come along with business and life. I always tell people, “Anything worth having will not be easy”. In 2012, I went through one of the most difficult times in my life. I had family and friends who passed away. The love of my life, so I thought, had gotten engaged and NOT TO ME. lol. My business was failing and my friendships were also challenges. I also tell people, when striving for greatness, you will be attacked in one to four areas of your life. You will be attacked in your finances and/or your relationships and/or your health and wellness and/or your spirituality. At that point in my life, I was being attacked in ALL FOUR. I didn’t even want to live anymore. It was PURE HELL for me. In fact, if you go to Youtube you can see a video that I did where I shared a little of my journey. I’m so grateful that I was too scared to kill myself because, since that time, I’ve felt more complete in my life than ever. Since that time, there have still been challenges. Too many to name. Just know as I said before, “Anything worth having will NOT be easy”.
Please tell us about Urban CEO Network.
I have TWO main businesses even though at the time of writing this, I have about five streams of income.
My for-profit business is called Show Your Success Co. where I specialize in helping entrepreneurs #getthebag. I believe all business owners should be authors. No, not to tell their life story but to use their book to build more business. I have helped more than 2000+ people to become authors and leverage their books to build multiple streams of income. For me, being an author has helped me to earn more than $100,000+ per year in the home-based business industry and my coaching business. I don’t like giving exact earnings just know its over $100,000 :o).
I also have my non-profit business Urban CEO Network which I shared a little about before. The goal of the Urban CEO is to really help men and women who maybe come from the streets as we would say in the urban community and teach them how to use their skills they’ve learned and transferred to legit business success. We have our Urban CEO Academy, Networking Mixers, Summits and Conferences that we do to help get the word out.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory as a child is the times when my dad and I would take road trips. Him jamming to music like the OJs or War… he has soooo many WAR albums. I’m sure his taste in music and me listening to all those jams is why I have a deep love for live music today.
