Today we’d like to introduce you to Janel Fields.
Janel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a New York native bringing my fresh and healthy meals to the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex. For as long as I can remember, I have always been passionate about food with several background family influences. I had a vision that I wanted to impact the lives of those and what they ate on a daily basis. I knew that I could make a difference in what people put into their bodies the way sickness came into mine as I began to battle several health issues earlier this year. I knew the reason why a lot of people around me were constantly getting sick came down to the food they were consuming.
At the beginning of 2018, I took a leap of faith and started Field of Greens DFW. I am a self-taught chef with lots of hours dedicated within the kitchen. I noticed that my meal prep services started taking off fast as word got around the North Dallas area. I have been blessed to continue to bring the metroplex healthy and delicious food options.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth Road? Definitely far from it! I call this “grind season”. Something about going to that 8-5 but coming home to fulfill your purpose and cater to the needs of your business is what constantly keeps me thriving. I do whatever is necessary to present clients with great product and customer service as if they were a patron at a 5-star restaurant. I remember having to sacrifice certain things not getting done financially to pursue and continue to build my business up. There have been a lot of sleepless nights while continuing to work a full-time job in the midst of it all. As a woman in the food industry field, I will encourage you to keep pushing and never become complacent. It’s grind season!
We’d love to hear more about Field of Greens DFW.
I am a private chef serving the Far North Dallas area with my meal prep service – Field of Greens DFW. All of my ingredients are fresh and filled with flavor once seasoned with the right spices and herbs and cooked in oils such as sunflower, avocado or coconut. I specialize in healthy proteins and fresh veggies that equate to a well-balanced meal. What sets me apart from other chefs is that I am constantly creating and bringing new dishes to my weekly menu that are welcoming to anyone who is looking for a fresh start when it comes to eating healthy.
What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
The most important advice that I can give to a young woman just beginning her journey towards entrepreneurship is don’t give in to the ‘naysayers’. What God has for you will always be for you and He will call you to do it no matter how saturated the market is. This is a daily affirmation that I tell myself.
