Rising Stars: Meet Caleb Ventura

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caleb Ventura.

Hi Caleb, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
As a 19-year-old photographer, I believe my story is just starting. For about 5 years now, I have been pursuing the art of photography, working with countless clients, models, and other creatives. However, it never started off as something I wanted to do as a career, rather, it was a fleeting hobby that gave me a space to embrace my imagination. Eventually, this creative outlet became a passion and an art that I could identify myself with, so I began to take things seriously in late 2018.

To be quite honest, I think there is so much space for me to grow and I am not quite content with where I stand as a photographer. However, there are no negative emotions in my tone when I say that because all I have in my heart is an inspiration to get to the places where I want to be!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The simple answer is that it has been anything but smooth. As a young Asian male, many of the people in my life have always encouraged me to pursue the “safer route”. On top of the cultural pressure, there has been many times throughout my creative career where I doubted my capabilities and feared the idea of failure. Of course, I’ve had my fair share of mental health issues, forcing me into slumps and spirals, but photography always allowed an outlet for me when times were dark.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I mainly focus on photography, both film and digital, but I do dabble in videography every now and then as well! I’m not quite sure what people know me for, but I will say that I take pride in trying to create innovative photos. I always do my best to explore every genre of photography so I can learn more, but it’s important to me that I incorporate my own creative touch to every shoot that I do. Whether or not that sets me apart from other photographers, I know that my genuine love and passion for art is apparent to anyone I work with.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
First and foremost, I need to give thanks to God for providing me with talents and opportunities and for being the original artist that inspires my work. Of course, I would also like to thank my family and friends for supporting me through my hardships, and always pushing me to pursue my passions to the best of my abilities. Finally, I would love to thank all of the creators, models, and clients who have allowed me to photograph them or with them because the experience from each of those photos have allowed me to learn so much.
