Art & Life with Brandon Davenport

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Davenport.

Brandon, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I’ve been an artist as long as I can remember. Since I was very young, I’ve felt the need to express myself through art. Growing up in a small central Texas town I always felt like an outcast since there wasn’t much of or any art scene where I’m from so I became heavily influenced by comics and pop-culture. In my teens I found tattooing, and it changed my life forever. The idea of creating a piece of art that someone would be proud to wear forever was an incredible notion to me. I began tattooing professionally over 15 years ago and haven’t looked back. I’m now 33 years old and have an amazing family, I’m married to the most beautiful woman I’ve ever met, Drew and I have five wonderful children, and our family means the world to me. I’m truly blessed to be able to provide a great life for us with my art and tattooing.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I’m an illustrator at heart, I work in several different mediums such as pen and ink, marker drawings, liquid acrylic, colored pencil, and acrylic painting, but the biggest my prominent form of art I do is tattooing. I am educated in several different styles of tattooing from neo-traditional, portraits, new school, Japanese and my favorite, biomechanical.

Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
With the explosion of art and tattooing in society over the last ten years, it’s made it both easier and harder for artists to get recognized in their fields. I think creating a style that’s all your own and that is very well throughout and executed is the best way to get your art noticed. Cities like Dallas can help make it easier for artists to get their works out to the public by hosting art events such as gallery showings and tattooing conventions to draw in a larger crowd of potential buyers and clients.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I use social media for networking and giving people exposure to my art and my tattoos. I sell my art through Instagram via Instagram messager. I use email to book clients for tattoo appointments; I feel using email for bookings makes it much easier to keep up with who’s getting what and when. If people would like to support my work, they can buy my art or prints of my art, or they can get tattooed, so they collect a piece of my art that stays with them forever.
