Today we’d like to introduce you to Gwendolyn Houston-Jack.
Gwendolyn, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
It started with a pink Pixie 110 camera. A simple holiday gift became my outlet for documenting the world around me. Not only could I play with words, but I could view life through an entirely new pair of eyes.
I’m a portrait artist specializing in creating modern, lifestyle wall art of families and individuals. Servicing the Dallas, Fort Worth, and Houston surrounding area I concentrate on curating and decorating homes with printed moments. I can’t wait to capture your unique style and help you create images you and your family will cherish forever!
I reside in Arlington, TX with my loving husband. In my spare time, I enjoy taking road trips with my husband (#JacksTheRoadtrippers), running and cooking. Nothing is more relaxing than hitting the road on two feet or four wheels.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My portraits is focused on capturing the essence of the person or the moment. I’m a printmaker so I look to create work I know will be printed and placed prominently on my client’s walls. I take an hour or so getting to know my client (likes, dislikes, theme song, etc.), so we can create a vision for the photo session. I appreciate and respect each person as an individual, and I look to share this message through framed work.
For special events, I focus on capturing the emotions of the moment… whatever they may be. Sometimes it’s joy and other times it may be a pain.
What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
I do believe the daily events in the world shape my art. Now, more than ever, I feel the need to stress to my clients the importance of documenting family events and creating family memories. One day we’re here, and the very next day we could be gone.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
My work is shared on my website at www.gphotographybyg.com. From there persons can view my social pages on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, and Twitter.
