Art & Life with Kalyssa Singleton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kalyssa Singleton.

Kalyssa, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was born and raised in a small country town in Oklahoma. I began dancing at the age of 14 and was a part of the dance team all 4 years of high school, graduating as Captain and a Valedictorian. Right afterwards, I auditioned and became a professional NBA dancer for the Oklahoma City Thunder. I then moved to Oklahoma City and cheered for two seasons. I thought it was time for something else so I had the crazy and ambitious thought to audition to become a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader. I began the move to Dallas at the age of 20 in hopes of becoming an NFL cheerleader, and thankfully I made it a couple months after living in Texas! After cheering for one season with the Cowboys, now I continue to live in Dallas at the age of 21 as I am a professional model who travels and is building a further career in the entertainment industry!

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
The kind of photography that I am published with/would like to be published with is Editorial Fashion, Implied, and Fitness. I love to be in front of a camera whether it may be still photographs or if I’m being represented as a spokesperson! I believe it’s all about confidence and loving who you are as a person. The camera doesn’t only reveal what the appearance is like, but also shows a little of a personality. That’s why I love it. I can completely be myself and learn from watching/seeing other models. It’s all about being true to who you really are and not letting yourself start to compare.

Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
I’m a born hustler I like to tell people. If you’re anything like me where you literally pay for everything yourself without the help of others/family, it might cause you to have side jobs to make the extra income. For instance, I do a lot of promotional modeling on the side because it’s great extra income, but my overall objective is to work as a professional model solely at some point soon!

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
