Art & Life with Kara Sánchez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kara Sánchez.

Kara, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I started doing wedding hair and makeup in Michigan when I was 14 and stuck with beauty while finishing college in Charleston, SC. After completing an additional degree in Paramedical Esthetics, I opened my first Brow Studio in Orlando, FL in 2006 and now my second location in Austin, TX. Making women feel beautiful and helping them to see their best features through makeup, brows, microblading has been a constant theme for me for nearly 20 years now, and I still freaking love it!

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My Nana lived with us since I was three years old and she suffered from Alopecia. She lost all of her hair when she was just a child in the 30s, and every day she would ‘put her face on’ along with her wig before she came out of her bedroom. She was NEVER seen without her wig and brows so my entire life I’ve known what a huge impact brows are for everyone’s confidence, not just those who aren’t blessed with them. By college, I was completely obsessed with brows although that was about ten years before it became popular to even work on them.

As a makeup artist, I’ve always loved the impact that form of art has on someone’s confidence, including my own,

I’ve always specialized in all things beauty but brows specifically. At my studio, I teach women daily how to maximize their best features while giving them beautifully balanced brows that they can wake up with every day for up to 3 years with microblading.

I have worked with countless women including celebrities in my career and enjoyed both equally. Everyone deserves to feel beautiful, and if I can help you find ‘your pretty’, then I feel pretty great too!

Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
Never quit learning! I am very accomplished in my field and still regularly attend trainings to continue to be better. It seems now everyone is an expert once they’ve watched a YouTube video and in my opinion that couldn’t be further from the truth. If you want to be the best, you have to put in the work. One of my favorite quotes is “there’s no glory in practice, but without practice, there’s no glory.”

Also when I became a professional makeup artist in 1997, that wasn’t a ‘real job’ in most people’s opinions, but it is what I loved, so I stuck with it and made it a profitable and meaningful career so stay your path if it feels right to you, no matter what others say. Drive and determination will get you anywhere you want to go!

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I Instagram and Instastory everyday @karasanchezbeauty and you can find my business on facebook too!

I have a YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKlYu5KpbI0&t=106s where I post beauty, brows and packing videos.
