Art & Life with Molly Magill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly Magill.

Molly, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
After my 15 year career as a corporate marketing executive ended abruptly, I had some soul searching to do. Having always been a maker in one way or another, I knew quickly that I wanted to build something of my own, though I didn’t know exactly what,  at first. With my education in interior design, which included art and art history, I began to simply make a piece of art every day in pure exploration…. as I went along, people started asking for help with interiors, and florals, but always, people wanted me to make them a piece of art….and I just let those requests for help guide me every day in building my studio.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My work is rooted in color and rhythmic shapes, but also layers and imperfections.  Each piece has it’s own journey, and if you look closely, you can see previous iterations, which I don’t try to hide. The work is inspired predominantly by Texas…and Texans. Especially my upbringing in West Texas, and it’s strong, bold, colorful culture. My work is absolutely tied to my family’s generations in Texas, as politicians, teachers, merchants, ranchers, writers and poets…and our family’s triumphs and heartbreaks. I hope my work inspires people to be brave in expressing themselves, and to not hide their mistakes or imperfections, but to embrace it all….to be bold and truthful.  I believe that our spaces and the objects we put in them help tell our story and should reflect the ups and downs…everyone’s story is interesting, complicated at times, and beautiful.

How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
Success is standing firmly in my space as a maker of art.  Success is creating work that not only tells my story and shows my perspective, but also, somehow, that of anyone that loves it. Success is connecting with people.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
The most up to date info and imagery of my work is on my Instagram feed @cliffandcallahan – or on cliffandcallahan.com. DM with any questions or for pricing info. Some pieces are created for sale, and many are created by commission.
