Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Renee.
Monique, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I’ve been singing since I’ve been able to speak. As a child, I remember riding with my father to pick my mother up from work, listening and singing along with my dad. He played all sorts of music! Heat Waves “Always and Forever” was one of my favorites. I grew up in church, so I was exposed to gospel music early on in my childhood, but it wasn’t until learning of artist, like Chaka Khan, Erykah Badu, and Jill Scott my passion and desire for music was amplified even more. As I furthered my musical journey, I decided to record my first Self-Titled EP, which included a fan favorite, “I want it all”.
I continued to nourish and grow as an Artist; my manager and I chose to promote our own shows, and they were unexpectedly successful! Currently, I’m working on a new body of work, showcasing, many different styles and influences that inspired me throughout the years combined on one record. My latest single “Funk you” was produced by Justin Lyons, aka GuitarSlayer, guitarist for K-Pop mega group Big Bang. The music video for the single will premiere Friday April 20th, at The Independent Bar and Kitchen in Deep Ellum. I hope to produce a project that will create a strong following for music lovers who are attracted to the power versatility and raw talent.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My art is singing. I was blessed with a gift, and I choose to use it to bless and touch someone else. I hope people have an experience when listening to my music. You just have to be pure and raw when sharing as a creative. That’s the thing that I love, that’s the thing that people love! I hope to give a realistic experience, with live instrumentation and less filters.
In your view, what is the biggest issue artists have to deal with?
I think the biggest challenge facing artist today is trying to stay true to genuine artistry and to be successful in a world that’s trendy and ever changing.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
