Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Weaver.
Nick, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I mean I don’t have this extravagant, awe inspiring story just a guy that enjoys taking pictures with a fancy camera. As far as photography goes I never took interest in it until I was in college. Up until then I was into sports, basketball and track, never in my life did photography enter my mind other than when my mom would make us take family pictures, and I hated it! I never wanted to have my picture taken growing up so it’s ironic that I’m the one behind the camera now.
My initial interest was emulating what I had seen on Tumblr and wanting to be one of those popular blogs I would follow. You’re probably laughing at that right now, and I admit it is comical to me too, but that’s where it all started for me. That spring a good friend of mine, DJ (R.I.P), gifted me my first camera and ever since that thang been on my hip, ya dig? I didn’t take any classes just did what I had always done any time I received a new gadget, press all the buttons and figure out what they do; kind of like how I play Tekken.
Your next question is going to be, “what do you like taking pictures of?” and I’m supposed to respond with the one thing I prefer over everything else. Well it ain’t simple ok! Well, it is but that ain’t the point. I enjoy documenting life in all aspects from weddings to people passing by on the street to leaves on the ground. With my camera I am documenting life through my own perspective. Photography makes you appreciate small moments in time that you can never get back, like a couple holding hands down the street, or a child blissfully playing on the playground. The emotions in that moment are what drive me to press the shutter button, instantly preserving a piece of time forever.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
The inspiration behind my work is my enjoyment for life
What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
My dad always tells me, “A closed mouth won’t get fed.” So I’ll pass that bit of wisdom along to you all as well.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
