Today we’d like to introduce you to Blaine Mitchell.
Hi Blaine, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It’s funny because I’ve always been the guy from NBC The Voice tv show, but what most don’t know is that for a season, I had no voice at all. The story behind “Losing Myself”: As a man, I stayed silent, isolated, and alone. This seemed more honorable than reaching out for help in the darkest season of my life, as I was being abused physically, emotionally, sexually, financially, and mentally by someone who vowed to love me. Honestly, I was caught in such a swirl of my abuser’s manipulative tactics. I had no idea what to do. It took deep-rooted faith and action to find my voice again and to repair everything that had been ripped away from my life with the help of professionals who see this happen daily. But I will never be silent again, and no one should ever feel this way. That’s where my new song “Losing Myself” came from, it is a song about finding oneself again. It’s an emotional overflow of what came to me sitting at my piano in about 15 minutes after I scraped myself to freedom from my abuser’s control. This song pulled the last emotional arrow out of my soul, I’d say that day.
Of course, there will always be scars, but scars fade with time. It’s also terrifying to admit all of this, but I am a survivor and in the name of freedom, may freedom be found for you and others. Stay strong, find your voice again. There is no weakness in finding help. When you’re at the bottom of a well trapped in darkness. There’s always a light you just have to be willing to reach for it. “Losing Myself” is out now on all popular music platforms. My 4-minute story of finding freedom. (It was released 11-20-20) Recorded in Hollywood and Fort Worth, Texas in the old Miller Lofts in SOMA Fort Worth. (We actually live next door to Leon Bridge’s studio) Produced by Ethan Kaufmann of Wild Party and guitarist for Jessica Simpson. Keys by Dan Porter of the Revelry house band in Bishop Arts and Brady Mitchell on drums. Written and co-produced by Blaine Mitchell.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Others may recognize my art from the song “Hold Back the River,” I performed during my time on the Voice to advance to the live finals. To follow up my new single release, “Losing Myself,”; I will be releasing a follow-up single on December 4th. Alongside a full-length music video directed by DFW’s finest Jenni Johnson. I can’t wait for the visual art to come alive alongside the musical finesse of the audio in my next single that drops on 12-4-2020. Music lovers and listeners can find all of these songs on my artist profile on all popular streaming platforms by simply searching “Blaine Mitchell”. Listeners will love my sound if they enjoy: Leon Bridges, Hozier, James Morrison, Head & the Heart, but always listen for yourself and find the box you love to put your favorite music in is what I say!
What makes you happy?
Freedom makes me happy! To be fully oneself is the most freeing thing that anyone could ever do in my opinion. Whatever that is for me in that specific day, that is what I love. Some days call for long bike rides with my best friend and love Annalise Mitchell, and some days call for a long coffee sabbath cozied up in a corner at Arcadia Coffee. So, whatever the day brings, I try and live it to the fullest, and that is what makes me happiest. Taking every moment in like it’s my last and bringing others around into the moment to share in the little moments. I believe it’s the collage of little moments at the end of our lives that make us happiest.
