Check out Kat Goodloe’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kat Goodloe.

Kat, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’m a self-taught designer, letterer & illustrator. I managed to snag an internship at a creative startup without any college education at the age of 20 & I’ve been designing ever since.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
With my lettering, I try to focus more on not taking myself too seriously, since it’s ridiculously easy for people to get wrapped up in themselves. So, the quotes & phrases I tend to letter stay light hearted & the color palettes have an airy feel to them. My illustration takes on a different personality & really works on building worlds celebrating women in all of their strength, weirdness, beauty, and complication. I’ve had a ton of moments in my life where music, art or movies have helped me feel stronger or more comfortable with myself — whether by simply being understood, or by feeling empowered by the traits of a character. I would love it if other women saw my work and felt that same way! I also love Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so that theme makes occasional appearances.

Have things improved for artists? What should cities do to empower artists?
Pay them & always credit the artist. Work is stolen so frequently from artist nowadays with the internet being such a big place. I think Dallas does a fantastic job using talent from within its own city & the art scene is constantly gaining more momentum.
