Meet Molly O’Connor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly O’Connor.

Molly, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I grew up in Fort Worth and went to SMU for college. While at SMU, I majored in Communication Studies and took a class where we had to make a blog for the semester. I’ve always loved taking photos and writing, so this was right up my alley. I didn’t continue with the blog after, but the idea stuck with me. I tried to start a blog again when I studied abroad, but I stopped because I was embarrassed about it and didn’t know what I was doing. I couldn’t stop thinking about it once I returned and decided to go for it 100% that summer. I’ve been blogging for three years now!

We’d love to hear more about your work. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I’m the owner and content creator behind the blog Molly on the Move! I started it once I returned from studying abroad because I saw a void in the blogging industry. I felt like there weren’t any blogs out there for me to relate to and wanted to be a positive light in the online space. I am inspired by so many things daily, and it ranges from the littlest of things to the biggest adventures, but my hope is that by sharing all of these in a positive way, it will encourage women to seek joy daily. People should know that you’re going to get a little bit of everything if you come to my blog or Instagram: running, travel, food, Dallas finds, etc. I love talking about what sets my soul on fire, and the Lord has given me so many passions that I’m chasing after. It brings me joy to bring others along on that journey! I love connecting with others, and it’s such an honor to be able to do that with so many others online.

The stereotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
Nowadays, we have so many resources available to us that I hate hearing people use money as an excuse. For bloggers, don’t get hung up on not having the newest and best resources. There’s always going to be something “better” that we could have, and if you start to think like that, it’s going to become toxic. Yes, a great camera is a good investment, but don’t let that stop you from starting a blog if you don’t have one. Use your iPhone! A beautiful website is great too, but you can get there later; there are plenty of affordable options on Etsy or Creative Market. Money can be a concern, but don’t let it take away from the joy of just creating.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
People can find me at www.mollyonthemoveblog.com or on Instagram at @molly_onthemove. I love hearing from my followers and readers! It brings me SO much joy, so please slide into those DMs, comment on a pic or shoot me an email.
