Check Out Bryan Yoon’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan Yoon.

Hi Bryan, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Contrary to where I am today on my career path, I started off majoring in Computer Science. As I sat and worked in front of a computer every day, I realized that my interest wasn’t in computer science but in photography. To explore my interest in photography, I began taking natural shots with film and digital cameras. Interest soon turned into passion which led me to want to learn everything I possibly could relevant to photography. Eventually, this passion led me to make the big decision of pursuing photography as a professional career.

As a result of this turning point in my life, I founded White August Photography 11 years ago. Being a person who loves to be exposed to, learn and try new things, I felt that photography would be able to offer that since with each project comes its own set of expectations and challenges. I love that with each project I was and am still able to learn and grow creatively as well as professionally. Through the numerous projects I have taken on over the years, I feel like I’ve gone through many different experiences that have developed and helped me to get to where I am today on my career path.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wouldn’t say it has been a smooth road, and there were struggles here and there along the way. Everyone dreams of getting paid for doing what they love, and I was excited when I first started on this career path. However, I was soon faced with the reality and pressure to produce and deliver the best results possible, satisfactory to both myself as a photographer and to my clients, especially since I was working in wedding and event photography. I also found myself constantly worried about falling behind and not being able to keep up with trends. However, with time, I found my own color and style rather than constantly chasing trends. I was able to eventually get to a place of balance where I wasn’t just focused on the perfect end result but was able to truly enjoy the process and feel/work with the initial passion I felt towards photography when I first stepped into the world of photography.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
White August Photography is mostly known for engagement and wedding photography but we also specialize in portraits as well. As previously mentioned, rather than following trends, I have found my own color and style of photography. This is what I believe sets me apart from others. I also value the importance of relationships and communication with my clients. I try my best to fully understand their needs, wants, and expectations and also put in a lot of effort to present and offer a broad variety of options, ideas, styles, and concepts that I feel may also fit well with their needs and wants. I can also confidently say that the level of passion I have for the work that I do continues to grow and motivates me on a daily basis to work harder and come up with new and creative concepts and ideas.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I immediately noticed the friendliness and charm of the people here and have come to appreciate the rich culture that Dallas has to offer. I also love all the delicious food. The least thing I like about Dallas would probably be the traffic.
