Check Out Cassidy Davis’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassidy Davis.

Hi Cassidy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Ever since I was little, I’ve loved being behind the camera. My dad taught me how to use a camera in elementary or middle school, and I’ve been hooked ever since. Throughout high school and college, I would offer my photography services for free simply because I loved it. I took a few photography classes in college to push myself and become more competent behind the camera, which really stretched me; before these classes, I was mostly self-taught. It wasn’t until after college that I could differentiate photography from just a consistent hobby to an actual profession. I started getting paid for gigs, which I didn’t think would be possible–it felt like a dream. Now, I’m working in social media full-time while continuing to grow my photography business on the side. My hope is to go into photography full-time, but I am truly loving this season of life and seeing how things unfold.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
This road has been somewhat of a surprise for me; it kind of came out of nowhere. I hadn’t taken photos professionally in a while, and all of sudden I’m getting gigs left and right–which is such a blessing. In college, I had kind of given up on the idea of being a professional photographer, and I chose to just harbor this dream in my heart and keep it as a hobby that I’d enjoy every now and then. Living in Dallas, it’s a saturated market for sure, and I didn’t think that anyone would choose my work over others. I truly never thought I’d be where I am today, and I’m just truly grateful for anyone who trusts me with their vision.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a freelance photographer that loves capturing joyful, warm, soulful moments. I work with brands, couples, companies, individuals, and families to help achieve their vision, whatever that may be. I’m passionate about making people feel loved and seen, and I’m blessed to be able to communicate that through my work. I would characterize my photos as warm, true to color, and full of emotion, and I love adding some grain or movement every now and then for that filmy, authentic look.

By nature, I’m terrible at self-promotion, but I’m really proud of the way I’ve been putting myself out there this year. I’ve been pushing myself to accept shoots I would normally be too afraid to accept and trust myself to do it justice. I’m proud of how comfortable I make people feel when they work with me and that they would even recommend me to their friends and family (the best feeling). I think what sets me apart from others is that instead of seeking to get the “perfectly posed” shot, I try to capture people in their truest form, which to me is the most beautiful–their natural smiles, authentic expressions, and raw emotions. When people look at my work, I want them to get a glimpse of who my clients truly are and feel what was going on in that moment–the soul behind the photo. That is always my goal, and I hope people can feel that when they look at my photos.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Even with the shift in prioritizing videos on social media, people still crave photo-driven platforms, which is encouraging to me. I think there has been a shift to more natural editing as opposed to heavy presets, more movement and fun instead of stiff poses, and more creativity in shoots–which is all very exciting. Not surprisingly, incorporating film along with digital photos has made a huge comeback, and I can see this trend persevering in the next 5-10 years; the film is timeless and homey and can capture things digital simply can’t, so I love seeing people take advantage of that. To me, photography is something that never gets old–it’s constantly moving and reshaping itself. I love seeing all the different ways it transforms throughout the years yet stays true to its core. It’s a beautiful thing to witness and be a part of.
