Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Ayala.
Hi Diana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It never occurred to me that I would become a home baker and turn my love for macarons into a small business. As a first generation college graduate, the expectation for me was that I would get a degree and get a high paying job in my field. I did get my degree in Biology and I am beyond proud of that, but it was not something I was passionate about.
Once I graduated, I struggled to find a job in my field and I felt so defeated. One night I stumbled across a video tutorial of macarons. I thought that they would be easy to make… I was so wrong! They were a challenge but I was determined to get them right. They definitely took some practice but once I got them right, I couldn’t stop making them and I haven’t stopped since.
I worked so hard to perfect them and eventually I had people asking if they could buy some. From there, Dayala Treats took off. I found that baking is what I am passionate about. I have branched out to trying other treats besides macarons and every day I work on improving my skills.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a small business is challenging and the road to accomplishing your dreams is a rough one. I had no background in what it takes to start a business and I started Dayala Treats from the ground up with nothing but my own research. Also, at this time I am a one woman show in charge of everything pertaining to my business. Not only do I do all the baking but I am also the one that handles sales, customer service, inventory, packaging, you name it! On top of that, I also have a corporate job 7am-4pm. Starting out the most challenging part for me was time management.
It was getting overwhelming at times to have a constant schedule of my corporate job 7am-4pm and then Dayala Treats until around midnight every day. I am doing much better now with finding a balance between the two. I will continue to work hard to accomplish my dream of Dayala Treats becoming my only focus.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a home baker that enjoys making all kinds of treats! But out of all the treats that I make I take the most pride in my macarons. I create beautiful macaron birthday boxes that my customers can customize for their special occasions. The box comes with a macaron “cake” and they get to choose their theme, colors, and flavors (I love it when they give me creative freedom). I like to think that what sets me apart is how much love and detail I put into every order regardless of how much time the order may take.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I would just like to share that I am grateful for everyone reading to learn a little bit more about me and my business. A special thank you to everyone who has continuously shown their support for Dayala Treats.
