Today We’d like to introduce to you, Jessica Stanton, owner of Glam Theory Cosmetics.
Jessica, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my journey in the beauty industry back in 2018 has a makeup artist, known as Beauty by Flawless Jess. On June 19, 2021, Glam Theory Cosmetics was birthed. I’ve always known that I wanted to have my own cosmetics line. I knew back in high school. My mother used to have this little kit with wax and different pigments and fragrances that were used to make lip balm and I used to play in it all the time to see what I could come up with. What’s crazy is that I did not actually start wearing makeup (like a full face) until my my later years in college, but, I’ve always been a lipstick and lip gloss girl.
Glam Theory Cosmetics is a brand that was created to represent every woman no matter her style, race or personality. Our slogan is, “Representing every woman. Hustle and slay”! So, while you’re out there in the world being your best self, we want you to slay while doing it. Glam Theory Cosmetics offers Velvet Matte Lipstick, Hydrating Lip Gloss and Luxury Lashes! Our products are very high quality and you’re sure to fall in love. They speak for themselves.
I decided to name it Glam Theory because I felt like every woman has her own theory on what glam is to them. My definition of glam may not be the same as my sisters or my friends. That also had a lot to do with why I went with the names I chose for my products. It’s meant for every woman to be able to express herself and purchase products that truly represents her.
I started mainly with lip products because one, I love lipstick and lip gloss, and two, your lips are the last thing you put on when you’re doing your makeup, right? That is when the look is complete and you become a new woman. Of course, I love all of my products but, my favorite has to be our Velvet Matte Lipstick named SAVAGE! It’s a bold, red lipstick that truly makes me feel powerful, untouchable and nobody can tell me anything when I have it on. I truly feel like I’m THAT CHICK!
I really feel like I manifested Glam Theory Cosmetics. As I said, I knew that I always wanted my own cosmetics line but to actually have one now is still mind blowing to me. Like, dang, I actually did it LOL. It feels amazing. I knew as a makeup artist I wanted to have something of my own to use on my clients. Yes, I love the other brands as well, but, there’s nothing like putting your products on your clients and having them get up and not only purchase so they can touch up later but, also brag about how amazing the products are. Glam Theory is the first of many business ventures I have in mind.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Yes and no, LOL. The biggest issue I had was finding vendors that not only were great to work with but also understood my vision. I was not about to sell my customers just any old thing. I took the time to test my products long before I put them out to sell. If it was not of quality, I started back at square one until I found a product that met my standards. Once I found them, I knew they were a go and I was on to something. For me, it was quality over everything else.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
In my 9-5 field I am an operations manager. But, I am also a makeup artist. That is the career that I love. I started my journey as a makeup artist in 2018. That is when Beauty by Flawless Jess was birthed. I’ve done two short films and recently had my first celebrity client, NotKarltonBanks. The journey to being a beauty pro has been nothing short of amazing. I’ve built/am building my name organically from the ground up. I’ve come a very long way and I am so proud. Majority of my clients are your everyday clients that are going to different type of events, it’s their birthday or they just want to get dolled up.
Lately, I’ve been booking quite a few weddings and I must say, I am starting to love them although they are very hard work. My favorite lyric from Lil Baby is, “I’m not a goat but I fit the description”. I am as humble as they come but I know my worth. I’ve worked very hard to get where I am and it’s only up from here. I’m most proud of the fact that I never gave up. I like to say that I tried different things to find what I was most in love with and beauty is it. It’s the only thing I’ve ever started and not given up on. I can honestly say that I am following my dreams and it feels amazing to finally know my purpose.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
A delay is not a denial. It’s never easy, anything of value takes time to build and nothing happens overnight. Everything happens right when it’s supposed to.
