Check Out Kimberly Munoz’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Munoz.

Hi Kimberly, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always wanted a farm. During our multiple military moves we weren’t ready. After we came back to the area and were settled, we knew we wanted some land. I graduated nursing school and those dreams became a reality! We found a property in Alvarado and within a couple years, brought home our first four Alpacas. Now we have grown to 12 Alpacas, one Llama, three Kunekune pigs, chickens, and a couple of great livestock dogs. Last year we added a youth team to compete in Alpacas shows and are so proud of these kids.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

For the most part, we haven’t had many struggles. We’ve been fortunate to have great mentorship. With the crazy Texas heat, we lost one of our Alpacas which is always a hard thing. They become part of our family.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a Pediatric Nurse by night and Alpaca farmer by day. I love caring for people, especially kids. Having to care for our Alpacas, although they are livestock, I deal with their medical care and everyday needs so I guess my nursing profession has really helped me with the needs of our Alpacas. I’m most proud of our accomplishments as a family and our teamwork. With us working full-time jobs, we are able to maintain our hobby with the Alpacas which also creates family time and special memories.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I’ve always had a wide variety of interests growing up. We moved around a lot and were able to experience different cultures and ways of life. Growing up we did a lot of camping and road trips that created very special memories. I played a few years of softball, swam, and had fun! I loved all animals growing up, especially cows. Don’t have any of those yet but will in the future.
