Today we’d like to introduce you to Krystal Burrell.
Hi Krystal, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My name is Krystal Burrell. I was born and raised by a single mother of 6 in Jackson, Ms. I’ve always had a love for music and entertainment. I grew up watching Rap City. I was infatuated by how they showed loved to rap artists and gave them a chance to spit raps. In high school, I linked up with some classmates that were rapping, and they needed a female to jump on some beats. I got the beats and crushed the track the first time I heard it.I began rapping. The rest is history. Back then there weren’t many female artists in the city, so I took a shot at it. Long story short I ended up being booked for a show every weekend for a year straight! It got tiresome, but I loved it. I was easy on the eyes and nice on the pen. So, It just worked. Mind you back then there was no social media, so you really had to hustle your music. I rapped for about 2 years, then I moved to my next hustle. I started my online shoe boutique Pink Luxe Shoetique. I literately was trapping shoes out the trunk of my Camry… Before it was popular to sell on Instagram, I was moving shoes on Insta! I’ve always been a hustler. I started hustling selling candy in the 6th grade. It’s just in me. My next hustle came to me in my dreams one night. So I knew This WAS THE ONE. God Sent. I’ve always been good at entertaining and talking to people. So on top of my obsession with Rap City and big personality. I decided to do interviews. I wanted to promote artists and entrepreneurs in my city, which was dear to me because I was both! So, in my dreams, it all came to me, and I would call it The Penthouse. The idea was GENUIS given that I have a profound love for condos and penthouses and penthouse views. This was not your average PENTHOUSE, it was about LEVELS starting from the bottom making your way to the top floor! I could relate! Penthouse Media and Marketing LLC jumped off in 2018. I started doing Facebook lives with artists and entrepreneurs promoting their businesses and music from Jackson, MS. In 2019 I found my first artist Yung Jewelz and began managing her rap career and still is to this day! We took the city by storm with Penthouse because I was one of the first females to create a platform of this nature! This was wayyy back before podcast and interviews were popular, especially for my city. I interviewed and networked with several people. We conducted community projects as well as sponsored events… Penthouse was on the rise! (Pun intended) Everything was going good up until 2019 at the age of 35, I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. I felt like my life was over. This was around the same time as Covid… I felt like my world was falling apart. I did 5 months of aggressive chemotherapy from March 2020 until July 2020. Chemo was the worst THING EVERRRR! But I was fighting to live. I know the dream God gave me, and I was fighting to live for myself, family and to continue to pursue my goals. After chemo, I had a double mastectomy. Mind you that was my first surgery ever. No reconstruction to date. Thank God I’m healthy alive, and well and here to tell my story hopefully to inspire someone to KEEP GOING. I definitely don’t look like what I went through. Going through that journey was a monster but it created a different monster in me! On the road to recovery in the same year… later that year… my baby sister whom is one of my two sisters that took care of me going through my cancer journey, passed away in front of me. THAT HURT ME TO MY CORE! Talking bout trauma and depression. My life has not been easy, but God has never left me. My FAMILY IS MY BACKBONE they’re my EVERYTHING. I’m on the road to recovery 3 years cancer free with my guardian Angel on my side. Fast forward to 2023, I’m healing and hustling. I relaunched Penthouse as Penthouse Views podcast show, and it’s going amazingly good. The only way IS UP! All CREDIT TO GOD FIRST MY FAMILY AND LOVED ONES! S/O to my Mama tho!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I produce my own Podcast Show “Penthouse Views. I created this platform to shed light on my city. Besides, I love to talk to people. I have a gift of talking and listening to people making them feel Comfortable enough to tell their story. I love to edit videos as well! I manage Yung Jewelz a 3x Hip Hop Female Artist from Jxn Ms
I have a Virgin Hair Company Hair Heist Hair Co
I am a Triple Negative Breast Cancer Survivor. (GOD DID) Some of my most proud moments are kicking cancer in this a#% and relaunching The Penthouse as Penthouse Views.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
We’re so unique in our own way! We have tons of creatives entrepreneurs entertainment etc. Some of the best of the best come from Jackson, MS. We’re legit a hidden Gem. Definitely Creme de la Creme.
What I dislike is we sometimes lack unity, and we definitely lack resources. We’re often overlooked because the negatives are broadcasted more than the positives But trust me when I say Jackson Ms is lit!
