Check Out Lance Perry’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lance Perry.

Hi Lance, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
My name is Lance Perry aka LDP, Co-Owner of “Perry Creative Photography” and the host and creator of the podcast “It’s Probably You”. Born in Colorado, raised in Western New York, and now living in Texas, I have a unique perspective on life and on people. I’m genuinely curious how different people live, what motivates them, and the common threads that tie us all together. As a photographer, I love doing street and product work. As a podcaster, my goal is to bring the everyday perspective of myself, rotating co-hosts and guests to you every season. Everyone has a story to tell and I plan to help them tell it! I started both journeys in 2019 and have never looked back.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
With photography, it was a slow evolution. It started off really focusing on learning techniques and being able to lean into the basics. It was the feeling of needing to learn the rules before you could break them. Some of the struggles along the way were mostly figuring out my style. I tried so many different editing styles, looks, and various color schemes. Eventually, I realized that less was more. When it comes to photography, it doesn’t matter if it’s products or street, my style is vibrant, full of light with thoughtful composition. Podcasting was a much more complicated journey. One that I feel like I am still very much on. The show started as a sports podcast and eventually grew into a tale of storytelling, self-discovery, and learning for myself and every guest. We use stories as a way of showing how much we have in common and that people can learn so much from others who are already doing the work.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Whenever I tell someone, I am a photographer, I typically get one of two questions: what type of camera do you use? Or, how long have you been a photographer? I enjoy talking about gear, so these questions give me an opportunity to speak photo jargon. However, they aren’t simple to answer when I really think about it. So, let’s tackle the first question. My main camera that I use for professional work is my Fujifilm X-T3. This is my workhorse camera that can do both photo and video at a high level. The second is much more straightforward. I’ve always enjoyed photography. I would use disposable cameras when I was younger to take pictures of random things and call it “art”. Then it was my Canon point-and-shoot all throughout college. Next, came the smartphone that could do it all. So, whenever someone asks me how long I’ve been a photographer, I tell them for as long as I can remember.

What matters most to you?
In my opinion, the most important think to me is creating from a place of authenticity. I want the work that I do to be a representation of myself. I truly believe a combination of joy, creativity, vision, and playfulness should be at the forefront of a creative life. Creating from a place of empowerment and self-acceptance allows me to be proud of the work I do without feeling like I need validation from others to feel like my work is great. I think what matters most is that people believe in themselves first and let the art speak for itself.
