Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard Pollak.
Hi Richard, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
After a successful career in the corporate restaurant industry, I was approached to review restaurants as a mystery shopper. I wrote an article for d magazine about my experience then. I started writing restaurant reviews along with sports writing covering the Dallas stars as the longest active sports writer during their first 32 seasons. My writing expanded to travel with over 32 trips from Aruba to Hawaii and over 25 destinations in the continental USA. Along the way, I also reviewed concerts and become president of The Dallas Press Club: dining and travel.
I started my rainbow entertainment and event agency and over the next 30 years produced entertainment for The Great State of Texas for 22 years, including Santa Claus at Neiman Marcus and a willie nelson concert which paid for our new backyard. As well as over 3000 weddings festivals and special events
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
With an extensive background in competitive marketing, I was very successful in marketing myself but dealing with entertainers was always a challenge. Securing invitations to travel and dine in restaurants was easier than actually writing about my experience. I wanted to be a promoter of dining and travel not a critic. Dallas was a great market and centrally located to travel from. In later years yelp and social media made everyone an alleged food and travel writer wanting free bees or else. Destinations wanted magazine articles they could touch with viewership to match not just pretty pictures overall my success exceeds my struggles with over a million dollars in sales yearly.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am most proud of my ability to market myself as Rainbow Entertainment I always wore my Rainbow Shirt so everyone knows me as Mr. Rainbow and remembers to call me for entertainment. I convinced my Sports Editor to let me write Restaurant Reviews. It became the 2nd most popular feature of the sports magazine after the Dallas Cowboys even greater than the Rangers Mavs or my Stars stories. I traveled to Hawaii 8 times but only 2 of my 3-bucket lists were to Aruba Bermuda but not yet Tahiti. I attended World Cups Stanley Cups and World Fairs. My favorite food is Country Fried Lobster at Nick n Sam’s and 5 lbs King Crab in Aruba at the Castaways with their Prime Minister and entire cabinet eating an the dining suite next door.
What makes you happy?
The praise of a successful event by my clients and a full stomach pleasing Restaurant Ownership while overeating great food but most important when my wife likes the exotic food she never would eat before
