Check Out Roxie Musiq’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roxie Musiq.

Hi Roxie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started singing at the age of only 2 years old, and of course, I started out in church. I knew at an early age that I loved music and that I wanted to sing, I grew up in my family church and had sang in the sunshine band, youth choir, adult choir, and the combined choir all by the time I was 8 years old, I loved it. At around 11 years old, my mom formed a gospel group, which consisted of my mom, myself, and my sisters. She named us, “The Blessed Assurance Moore Singers”. We sang until I turned 22 years old. I would lead the songs; my mother and sisters would sing back up. That’s when I really knew I wanted to sing and touch people. My dad which is an awesome singer and guitarist had a band named, “The Moore Brother Live Band”. They sang R&B music. Both of my parents are talented musician and singers. I remember being 12 singing with my dad and uncles at the family reunions we would have. I would be so shy, but my Dad didn’t care…he wanted me to sing…and I would show out too! That sparked my interest in R&B music. At the age of 22 I met a guy, by the name of Elbert Hensley Jr, he had a gospel group called, The Hensley Ensemble and asked me to join. That was my first taste of traveling around and singing, we recorded 3 albums, which I sang lead on 1. We sang background for Yolonda Adams, Marvin Sapp, Beverly Crawford, Angela Spivey, and so many others. We hosted the gospel brunch at the House of Blues in Dallas and Houston. I was 22 and was having so much fun. At 26 is when I was asked to sing R&B music in a band. The drummer of The Hensley Ensemble, at the time, had his own R&B band and asked me to join. I was so nervous because I had never sang rhythm and blues, out in public as an adult. “I’m a church girl”. My mother didn’t let us listen to certain music so I didn’t know many R&B tunes, outside of what I could sneak and hear on the radio. I had to learn A LOT of music…lol. I remember being so nervous and wanted so bad to back out… but I did it and that feeling at 12 sparked back up in me again. This is what I wanted to do…I wanted to shine my light on some of the darkness that I saw in people’s eyes. Yes, I sang in church, yes, I’m a church girl, but I wanted to shine my light over where it’s needed. Since then, I’ve had the liberty to work with Sinbad, and even sang background for Rascal Flatts at the American Country Music Awards in 2015. I’ve been blessed to start my own band, “Roxie Musiq and the Band”. I released my 2nd EP titled “Roxie” in August of 2021. I’m really just getting started and I don’t plan on stopping any time soon.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. I’ve had so many setbacks, but I never let it stop me. This is my second time around. I started a band in 2013 and things didn’t go as planned. So, my team rebranded me and changed some things and I’ve been going every since.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am currently getting ready to launch a makeup line called “Roxstar Cosmetics”!!! I am super excited. The line will start out with eye shadow palettes, lipsticks, matte, and gloss… I will also have my own line of makeup brushes, I currently have body oils, lotions, and apparel that I am selling now. My Make-up line will cater to the girl with the skin that just will not act right. I want to be able to heal your skin while looking beautiful wearing my makeup. Roxstar Cosmetics will launch at the beginning of 2023. What will set me apart will be my ability to heal your skin while wearing my make-up. You will be able to wear Roxstar Cosmetics without worrying about acne issues, itching or inflammation. Stay tuned.
What do you think about luck?
I will say this, God has been my driving force. All the bad needed to happen so that I could appreciate the good. I don’t regret anything that has happened in my life. I’ve been through enough to make me want to quit. At times I thought I had a “BEAT ME DOWN” sign written on my body. But God!!! I’m not lucky, I’m Blessed. I almost lost everything, but I’m grateful for my Bosses!!! My managers who picked me up dusted me off and breathed their love into me!!! I’m so grateful!!! GOD IS EVERYTHING!!!
