Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Hui.
Hi Samantha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I have over 12 years in the beauty industry. I started off as a cosmetologist spending most of my time working at Drybar at the Highland Park location. This then introduced me to the wedding industry, which is where I met other makeup artists and expanded my training into makeup. From there, I grew a passion for overall beauty and loved being able to transform women for their Wedding and other major events. I then went to school to get my Laser license to dip my toe into aesthetics. Once I got my first job at a Medspa and learned the ins and outs of aesthetics, I knew this was where I wanted to stay and make it into my career. I am beyond grateful to have met so many amazing aestheticians that helped me along this journey. The beauty industry is never ending, and I am always continuing my education to make sure I am up with the latest treatments to better my knowledge and services that I can provide. I love being able to meet all the women and men of Dallas that want to transform their skin to enhance their own beauty.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all; once I received my laser license, I thought I was going to get a job right away. It took a year of me applying to many medspas, working at Drybar, and doing weddings on the weekend. Working seven days a week most months. When I did finally get a job at a medspa, it was only part-time, meaning I was still working at Drybar the other days. The hustle was no joke at the beginning.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am the Lead Aesthetician and Laser Professional at Skyn Lab. We celebrated our One Year anniversary this June, and I am so happy to be a part of this family. I specialize in lasers and anything skin related. I perform minimal downtime skin rejuvenation to treatments that require a week+ of downtime. I also perform lash lifts, brow lamination, facials, and laser hair removal.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
One of the major risks I took was leaving Drybar. I was there for a little over 6 years; I was very comfortable there and had the most amazing clients. I loved that job. I knew if I wanted to get my name out there more and expand on the services I could provide, I would have to leave. But leaving ended up being the best thing for my career. I believe in order to grow, you have to take risks. You will never know where you could end up if you decide to stay “comfortable.”
