Today we’d like to introduce you to Penny & Dime.
Penny & Dime, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
We both had individually been making music for a while but were seeking someone to collaborate with. Ultimately that lead us to the best website around, craigslist. Krystle answered a posting of Kylie’s, then we met and were wearing the same shoes. We have desperately been trying to not accidentally dress the same ever since.
We have been making music together for a little under two years and play local gigs around town frequently. We are hoping to record our first EP by the end of 2018 and see where this side hustle takes us.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
We would classify ourselves as storytellers in the folk genre. We draw our inspiration from everywhere – personal events, friends, family (sorry mom) and current events. With each song that we write we want to people to be able to connect with the emotion behind the song and feel like they are a part of it. Good vibes.
Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
I think with social media it is tough to find your own voice. There are so many people with talented perspectives it is easy to draw inspiration without really tuning into who you are. At the same time, it is important not to view the music community as competition, but as companions on the same journey. We have met and been supported by some of the best people. Social media can be a great place to make those connections.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
We perform locally around Dallas and you can find all of our upcoming gigs on either Facebook or Instagram (@pennyanddimeband). When our EP comes out in the fall, feel free to buy it on pennyanddime.bandcamp.com.
