Today we’d like to introduce you to Sierra Barnes .
Sierra, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
In 2002 at the age of five-years-old. I was diagnosed with Craniopharyngioma (brain tumor). After being diagnosed and having my brain surgery, I painted my first painting which I titled “Complicated.” Back then I had no idea that I would become the artist that I am today. I’ve had a passion for art most of my life. I believe art can heal and it’s helped me through some really difficult times in my life.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do? Why? And what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I paint abstract and abstract figurative paintings using acrylic and watercolor paints. Sometimes I plan what I am going to create and other times it’s what I like to call intuitive. I just go with whatever comes to mind. Letting the brush lead the way. Most things that inspire my art are my daily life, things that I’ve been through, and things that I observe in the world. My main goal as an artist is to help and inspire others while expressing myself and doing what I love. If I can make at least one person feel better through my art and poetry that’s better than any art sale that I make. Each piece of my art comes with an original poem handwritten by me on the back of it. The poem describes my point of view and feelings about each piece.
What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
To listen and follow your heart and create the kind of art that you want to create. Don’t listen to other people telling you their negative opinions or that a different style of art will sell better. Have fun with it and don’t be too hard on yourself. Go beyond any boundaries that people try to put on you. Believe in yourself and stay positive.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Currently, my art can be seen on my website and my Etsy shop.
