Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Torabi.
Sydney, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today.
Born and Raised in Austin, TX, I grew up a competitive swimmer and traveling to Dallas for a bunch of swim meets from elementary to College. I’ve always had a passion for fitness and competitive nature from swimming. While attending College at The University of Texas @ Austin, I competed as part of the Women’s Swim Team my first year and studied Nutrition in undergrad. After closing the swim chapter of my life, I began to study different types of workouts, fitness routines and relating nutrition to fuel your body throughout it all. As my personal journey with life after swimming began, I slowly started to realize just how much was out there in the world of health and fitness and started my blog, Spin Syddy, as a fitness studio reviews page. From there and figuring out what it truly meant to enjoy working out/finding my niche, Spin Syddy is now a blog dedicated to performance-based fitness (weight training, conditioning, HIIT), Paleo Eating (recipes, restaurant finds, modifications), and generally living a balanced life including a scoop (or 2) of ice cream along the way.
My goal with my brand is to inspire men and women to live a healthy lifestyle and show that healthy living isn’t as boring or intimidating as some stereotypes lead people to believe.
I wouldn’t be where I am today without my loving supportive family and of course my sister, Shayda, who inspired me to even start my blog! There’s been a few people along the way, including my best friend and current employers at Athletic Outcomes, over the past couple years who’ve been my mentors in terms of growth both on a personal and brand level and am so grateful for them.
We’d love to hear more about your work. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Right now I’m wearing a ton of different hats. Meaning I’m a small business owner who is learning all aspects of a business. First and foremost, I’m a Personal Trainer & Nutritionist. It’s what I studied in school and I have such an obsession with health and fitness that I created my blog, Spin Syddy, and only want to share my knowledge to those who share the same obsession 🙂
Going back to authenticity, I’m most proud of how I present myself online. It’s cheesy but can be super easy to fall victim to “fitting in” or “doing it for the gram” that throughout this journey I’ve tried to stick to my roots and be my weird self. They say that no one’s better at being you than you and it’s so true! Trying to be anyone else is exhausting and readers can see right through it. My brand is about fitness and nutrition (hello other 99% of the internet) but it’s personality that sets anyone apart and I try to incorporate mine as much as possible.
What were you like growing up?
For sure, I was a competitive athlete growing up and although it kept me from a normal social life in High School especially, it also kept me out of trouble and on a disciplined path. HUGE shoutout to my parents for also fueling my competitive fire and being such incredible role models. They’re both business owners and have been entrepreneurs their whole lives.
Plus, there was always a goal in mind (setting a personal record, attending 5am practices, etc.) that I didn’t have time for much else other than swimming and it’s really molded me as an adult to stay on track. When I envision a goal, I achieve it and don’t look for excuses.
