Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandria Brown.
Hi Alexandria, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up without a typical woman role model who shows a girl how to become a woman so the beauty industry was very alien to me. I started out in this industry as a regular retail employee, I had no experience in the beauty industry or inspiration aside of my artistic background. I watched from the checkout counter as clients would come in and get expert help from others and makeup applications. I was inspired to transition into a makeup artist, my fellow leaders agreed it was a great move for me so I took on the opportunity to learn and grow in the beauty field. I was new, eager to get some technique and inspiration so I would team up with the reps from different companies to learn more about their brands, ingredients, and tips – i.e., Rodial, Tarte, Smashbox, and Stila. My knowledge grew quick, I was providing services in Southlake, TX to being my journey. Fully booked for every local homecoming, prom, and event. I ventured out into onsite makeup application for weddings, prom, and special events for my amazing clients. I built amazing relationships in the beauty industry. I truly enjoyed every minute of my journey! Opening my own business was difficult but worth it, the support from my friends and family really keeps me motivated to pursue my full potential.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been an easy road, anything worth doing doesn’t come easy. I, unfortunately, did not have a very stable foundation to blossom my talents in growing up. I moved around a lot as a kid so I truly never stapled what I wanted to be when I was an adult. I never got a high school experience. I stopped public school when I was in 8th grade, due to stability issues. I pursued my education alone at 15, went to high school online, and invested in myself. I graduated on time ahead of my class at 18 with my High School Diploma! Not having had a very social opportunity during my high school years, I truly didn’t know what to apply my passions in, as I had so many. It was a struggle, but know your shortcomings do not define what you are capable of if you apply yourself.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I think what sets me apart from some is my determination. Things may take time to come to fruition, but I do not give up. I have experience in many different backgrounds; business launch, marketing, real estate, beauty, sales, all the way to hospitality. I have taken something away from each phase of my life, applying it to my future and using it as a stepping stone or a learning experience. I feel like I’m known for my work in the DFW beauty industry, being a makeup artist for some years, to launching my businesses in 2019, and 2021. My experience in the beauty industry is actually what fueled my opening of “LashBerry” in 2019, I was going through $100’s using eyelashes on clients for a few hours of use. That was crazy to me, so I opened a false lash company and provided fellow makeup artists as well as regular individuals with an outlet to purchase affordable, high-quality lashes. Stay tuned for the opening of my boutique, should be launching in mid-2022.
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I am 100% self-made. I didn’t have what most people have growing up so if I was going to be anyone, I had to do it on my own. I gained experience and knowledge by observing the world around me during my adolescent years. I invested in myself, always in tune with my vision, and knew when I was getting burnt out in any industry. Being self-sufficient at a young age was hard, but it does form you into a dependable young adult. I started my business with my own money and took a chance on myself and my talent.
