Community Highlights: Meet Jeanette Lule of Sweets by Cheeks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeanette Lule.

Hi Jeanette, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have childhood memories of baking with my sister. I’ve always loved sweets – everything from tiramisu to bread pudding to tres leches to pan dulce to brownies.

When I got my own place, I bought some basic bakeware and slowly starting baking more and more. As the years went by, anytime I wanted to de-stress, I would make a cake. I am a full-time paralegal, and it can be a pretty stressful job.

For years, I’ve been baking my parents’ and siblings’ birthday cakes, then my nieces and nephews. I would give away a lot of what I baked and then word started spreading.

Soon, I wanted to learn more techniques. I explored the web and took some decorating classes. I enjoy experimenting with different flavors and coming up with new ideas. To others, cake is just cake. To me, it is much more. It’s years of learning and perfecting techniques, hundreds of sleepless nights, and countless hours of baking and creating – and cannot forget about the never ending dishes.

Over the years, I’ve been growing in and loving the IG baking community that I’m glad to be a part of. I’ve meet wonderful and supportive friends.

This year I started doing pop-ups and have enjoyed meeting other small local businesses and new clients.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. It’s been a juggling act of balancing my two work lives. I love my full-time job and I also love baking for my small business.

There are some months that I do not have a personal life. I spend my day at my full-time job and my evenings/nights at home baking.

It’s really easy to burn out, and I still have a lot to learn and work on. I’ve been working on not feeling guilty when saying “no” when I’m fully booked.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At Sweets by Cheeks, we specialize in custom buttercream cakes and dessert bars. We are known for our delicious cakes and fudgy brownies.

What sets us apart from others is that we listen to our clients, take the time to understand what our clients want, and how to design specific treats for each individual. We take what flavors and design they want and give it a little twist. I love when a client give us free reign on the flavors or design.

I am most proud of the Sweets by Cheeks brand because it stands for quality products, fully customizable with unique and elegant twists.

We would like your readers to know that we are here for them, we take the time to curate a unique dessert for any event, any size, and for all their special occasions. We enjoy catering luncheons and creating a large dessert bar, but we also love creating that special birthday cake for your child who is turning 1 or that intimate small gathering among friends. We pride ourselves on delivering quality desserts and treating each client like an individual and making them feel special because they are.

Throughout the year, we offer seasonal menus and treat boxes. You can check out our IG and our website to see what’s currently being offered.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I am a one-woman show and I am very proud of how far Sweets by Cheeks has come. Baking and selling cakes and other desserts was not on my radar. Being able to share my love for baking with others is unimaginable.

My day is made anytime someone reaches out to me and I look forward to every dessert I get to make.
