Conversations with the Inspiring Brittany Washington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Washington.

Brittany, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit, as a kid, I always wanted to earn and spend MY OWN money and I didn’t mind working for it. I’ve witnessed entrepreneurship first hand via my dad growing up. And I always remember him speaking to being his own boss. At the time, he nor myself probably knew it but little did we know his words, actions and perseverance would stick with me on my journey when I decided to follow in his footsteps and pursue my very own entrepreneurial quest.

I have been at this entrepreneurial exploration for about 10 years now and along this ride, there has been some trial, error and lots of areas of opportunity. With social media, sometimes people only see the results and they don’t get to see the steps that you took to get there. And for me, those tough times have been my best teachers and the part I have appreciated the most about my path in particular.

I have always been known for my fashion sense and my tech-savvy nature. With creating and launching my business: She’s So Clutch, I get to marry the two things I adore the most. I LOVE being able to connect with people via my business. Fashion has always been the way I have presented myself to the world. Fashion, the internet and social media has allowed me to connect with so many people across the globe. The support is genuine and I cannot wait to see what else God has in store for me and my business.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth? Ha, that’s funny. Absolutely not. I will say that those tough times will either make or break you and you will find out if in fact you are truly built for the visions you see for yourself. When people say it is a roller coaster, BELIEVE THEM! The hard part for me I feel like was actually pinpointing exactly what it was that I wanted to do. Fashion wasn’t always a career field that people looked at as something you could be successful in. And it sure wasn’t as popular then as it now. So, I literally had to figure this out on my own. Thank GOD for Google and Will McNair over at the Dallas World Trade Center. She’s So Clutch wasn’t my first business. I had two or three others before I was actually able to nail down the perfect name and what I wanted to offer the world.

Consistency for me has always been KEY! Yes, I wanted to give up. Yes, I wanted to quit. But I didn’t and each time that I thought I was going to throw in the towel, God threw it right back at me. Persevering through those hard times will award you so much resilience. You may not see it at the moment but looking back, you will be thankful that they occurred. As I type this out, I am smiling because I am so appreciative that I simply DID NOT GIVE UP. You won’t always have a concrete plan in place. Sometimes, you just have to wing it and in those times where you are winging it, you will produce some of your best work.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into She’s So Clutch story. Tell us more about it.
She’s So Clutch is a lifestyle brand geared towards Female Empowerment Driven & Focused! Currently experiencing changes & new opportunities. Her style reflects her new place in life and in the world…

Basketball is my sport of choice and I as well played in high school. Clutch is a term heavily used in basketball and it has always been a word I have gravitated to since hearing/learning what it meant years ago. Since I can remember my gift to those close to me has always been being able to come through in the CLUTCH! I pride myself on being able to operate under extreme pressure peacefully. Since this is something I swear by it HAD to be apart of my business model.

With that being said, the items I currently offer are CLUTCH/Key lifestyle pieces. The first item that I offered to the world was my yearly planner. I launched that in 2018 and have offered yearly since. The 2020 planner will be launching soon, fully designed by me. The next Clutch piece I offer is these really cool Chain Moto Boots. They are a show stopper. They come in 2 colors: Black & White and I believe I am at about 126 pairs sold since their launch last year. Just recently, August to be exact. I launched Clutch Frames which is my sunglass/frame line. It’s inception as been extremely successful and they can hold a prescription, so literally everyone can partake and have some really cool stylish frames.

I do plan to launch stuff for the fellas as well, I literally hear something about it every day so that is my next project to tackle.

What sets me apart is literally being myself. I am genuine and I truly LOVE what I do. The things I offer are items and pieces I would wear/use. I have always rocked to the beat of my own drum which is what my business is all about. In the past, I have worked for 2 two major retailers that have always been known for their customer service. Customer service is literally ingrained in my DNA. Lol. But it is literally something that can make or break your business. This is something that I understood very early on and have applied that to my business as well.

What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
One of my favorite quotes from my 2019 Planner:

“Women really do rule the world. They just haven’t figured it out yet. when they do, and they will, we’re all in big big trouble.”

~Doctor Leon

Quote Update:

“We’ve definitely figured it out!”
