Conversations with the Inspiring Casey Ta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Ta.

Casey, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My background is in IT and business management. While doing that full time, my right brain was very much interested in beauty. I’ve had experience in brow shaping since 19 (I am now 35), in 2011, I worked part-time for Sephora and freelanced as a makeup artists for weddings and editorial photography. I moved to Dallas from NC in 2014 and started Suite Lovely in 2015. I wanted to focus in a specialty within the beauty industry that was not as popular at the time, but I knew that it would become big, so it was eyelash extensions and brow microblading. I was one of the very few first microbladers back in 2015 in Dallas, TX.

It has been such a humbling learning and growing curve. As I worked relentlessly seven days a week, over time, there was a demand to grow. Driven by nature, it was difficult for me to stay stagnant, so in 2017, I started to add on another artist to Suite Lovely. I had a vision from the very beginning of what type of business space and brand I wanted, but I had to start small as it was myself starting from scratch.

Here we are, three years later, Suite Lovely has its own storefront! It is to be opened end of October this year (2018). I have always wanted to build an environment for my clients and my team to have a nice waiting area. Wifi provided an overall great experience from the space itself to the services. We always need to excel to keep up in such a competitive market. But I am confident in the team that I am building because quality products, services, and work ethics will not be compromised at Suite Lovely.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It absolutely has not been a smooth road. It is one thing to be an artist and show up at work and do your best work, another story when you are also operating the business. The day in and out of keeping up with the infrastructure of the business, up keeping with clients, making sure they are happy. Unfortunately, no matter what you do and how much you bend, some clients are just unhappy, and I am sure other folks in the service industry could agree.

My advice for others: know that you’re not alone and don’t take it personally. Don’t let a bad experience deters you from doing what you love and good at.

It has been an exciting, yet challenging journey nonetheless and now with the new storefront, I am sure there will hoop to jump through. Ironically, I love challenges. This is what I live for, my drive and my passion to help enhance beauty for each and everyone who steps foot into Suite Lovely.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into SUITE LOVELY story. Tell us more about the business.
My specialties: Brow Microblading, Brow Shading which includes brow waxing/shaping. Lash extensions. Permanent makeup: eyeliner and lips.

I am most proud of (please ask me about my take on the movie “The Founder” if we ever get to connect) my belief on quality, honesty, and integrity. Quality, not quantity – I will not compromise for less expensive tools/products if I know they don’t produce as good of results for clients. Honesty and integrity – doing what is right for the clients. I want what is best for clients as I need to sleep well at night and not to mention, they are my walking billboard!

Looping the three important things of quality, honesty, and integrity – this is how I train and influence the artists who work at Suite Lovely. Suite Lovely is a studio with artists who are hand-picked by me, trained and curated on an on-going basis.

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
In beauty and fashion, I admired Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel. Her confidence, her talents, and elegance. It was always my dream to meet her. Unfortunately, I was born in the 1980s, and she passed in 1971, silly me!

My current day female hero is Nguyet Anh Duong. She is a Vietnamese American scientist serving the U.S government since 1983 – she is also known as the “bomb lady” (the bomb that ended the war with Afghanistan). This may be a huge surprise for readers! But besides the passion for beauty, I want to continuously be aware of our country and the well-being of humanity around us. She and I share in common being Vietnamese and having to step foot in U.S soil when we are younger, living the double life as a Vietnamese and an American. I admire her courage and intelligence. I hope to meet her in person soon!
