Conversations with the Inspiring Christin Taylor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christin Taylor.

Christin, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It was one of those “treat yourself” moments. As all great stories begin. On my 26th birthday, I took an intro to aerial arts class at Twisted Bodies in Denton, Texas. It’s been two years and I’ve since begun a dedicated aerial practice while performing and teaching at Extend Fitness Studio here in Dallas. I also explore other apparatuses. Pole, straps, silks, etc. Anything I can get my hands on really.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Along with teaching and my own training; I’ve been performing with Blake Ward & Discotx at themed parties to bring a new level of nightlife to Dallas. The last two parties I performed at were ‘Physcadellaic Spaceship’ and ‘Celestial Bodies’. Really fun stuff. It’s been amazing to be a part of. On a daily basis, I’m currently(and always) focused on pushing myself to be better and explore new movements.

But all aerials aside, by day I’m a copywriter at an international ad agency and volunteer with local non-profits Ad 2 Dallas as a creative director and Art Conspiracy as a music writer.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s hasn’t been easy, but man, it’s been fun. Along the way, it’s hard not to compare yourself to more experienced aerialists. You learn very quickly, that no, you’re not born flexible and yes, it takes time to gain the strength to lift yourself. You also learn everybody is different. Some women are stronger, while others are pretzels.

And in time, you can be both. Also, fluidity in movement is hard. You have to trust your body and your mind to work together so you can focus on making it pretty.

I would encourage all women to try aerial arts, but please don’t be too hard on yourself. Have fun with it. Whether it be lyra, pole, silks, straps, hammock, etc. It’s amazing to learn what your body is capable of and be able to walk through day-to-day life knowing it.

The aerial journey is paved with hours of training, lots of bruises and some of the strongest women you’ll ever meet. Both physically and emotionally.

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
I used to be an “I don’t like girls” girl. Now, that’s furthest from the truth. Every woman in my life has inspired me. Especially everyone at Extend Fitness Studio. My aerial home.

Thank you to my mom, sister, best friends, aerial instructors, and sisters. I couldn’t do it without you.
