Conversations with the Inspiring Danielle Petty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Petty.

Danielle, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started off at the age of 4 with dancing, tumbling and other genres at a private studio in Grand Prairie, Tx. I continued my dance education in Arlington, Tx learning ballet, pointe, lyrical, modern, jazz, tap and last but not least hip hop. I decided to pursue ballet more and ended up getting injured and was out for about two years. I did Gyrotonics to assist the healing from my injury and successfully recovered. After recovery, I decided to explore different dance groups and enjoyed expanding my dance experiences. I finally decided to make hip hop my primary focus. While dancing for various recording artists, I have had the opportunity to enhance my dance skills. I made a list of goals that I had wanted to achieve one of those goals was to tour and God has blessed me to be presently touring with Motown Gospel Recording Artist Jonathan Traylor.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
NO, it hasn’t at all but my struggles made me stronger tearing the ligaments in my left hip and a lot of people wanted me to continue dancing instead of taking the time out to heal completely. My advice is to STAY FOCUSED on your goals and take care of your body, soul and mind. I was taught when one door closes, another door will open. You’ll never go wrong with God by your side. Don’t get discouraged whenever you see others doing bigger things than you when it’s your time everything will fall into place.

What should we know about your business? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m a backup dancer I have years of experience in all genres which is pretty cool to able to say. In the recent years, I am more known for hip hop. I have many talents such as hairstyling, makeup artistry, and I own my own website selling various things. I’m most proud of the way I carry myself as a young woman because I refuse to sell out over any job no matter who it is. My respect is more important than money will ever be. I’m known for my style and have had the privilege of styling others.

What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
Being overlooked a lot pushed me to fight harder to be where I wanted to be. Also, having a positive support system has helped greatly they’re very honest and caring they care about my well being.
