Conversations with the Inspiring Dayanna Sutton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dayanna Sutton.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I first grew my love for makeup about seven years ago. My mom and I walked into the MAC store, and I noticed a lady looking a bit lost. I stopped and asked her if she needed help as if I was working there. She began to explain how her daughter was complaining about her red lipstick so she wanted to try a new color, the one the employee picked out was orange and too similar to the red she always wore. I walked her through the store and found this gorgeous pink color that I thought looked really nice on her skin tone, she winded up buying the one I chose and from that day forward, I grew a love for makeup. After school, I would sit for hours watching YouTube videos on how to high light and contour the face, blending eyeshadow, what powdered work for which skin tones. Then, my junior year in high school, I decided I was finna start taking clients during prom season. I took my first client and she loved it. As the years went by, I’ve done makeup for photoshoots, Texas international trade and hair show, and now, I’m working as a makeup artist at “KB Naturals Beauty Bar.”

Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smith road. It takes money to make money. There have been times throughout the years were I’ve had to put my dreams on hold, so I could work a regular job. Gaining new clients was also a huge struggle for me in the beginning. But once I learned to have complete faith in God and my craft, many doors began to open for me. My advice to anyone just starting their journey is to never give up! This isn’t an overnight process, you have to stay committed and watch your brand grow. You’re going to go through the bad times to help shape and mold you for bigger success!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into DaySut On The Beat story. Tell us more about it.
My biggest specialty is glam makeup! A lot of my clients love the glitter and bold lashes. Lately, I’ve been doing makeup for a lot of photo shoots. This year, I want to branch out and get into more weddings and fashion shows. Some of my greatest accomplishments so far was working the “Texas International Trade and Hairshow”, doing makeup for a shoot with a hair company based out of New York, and finally moving into a shop. Some of the things that my clients say set me apart from other makeup artist are that I’m fast, my skin application is very nice and smooth, and the connections I make with my clients.

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
My biggest inspiration has always been my older sister, Danasia Sutton. She’s always been very ambitious and knows what she wants out of life, I’ve had the privilege of watching her blossom and it’s influenced me to want to do the same.
