Conversations with the Inspiring Esther Alvarez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Esther Alvarez.

Esther, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I come from a family of three girls and we are very alike yet we have different hobbies, styles, and dreams. One thing that we share in common is the passion that we have to inspire. We have different careers but decided to bring them together for one purpose. The blog surfaced from that common goal.

Has it been a smooth road?
“Nothing that matters comes easy”, I heard that phrase somewhere and from our parents. I think the biggest struggle we have faced is juggling a full-time job and making time for our blog. My advice to other women who are starting their journey is that as long as you have a purpose and you focus on that, it won’t matter how hard the road gets. Your purpose or goal will give you that push to continue every time.

So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into Rus en Urbe Blog story. Tell us more about the business.
Like I previously stated, my sisters and I came together and have been working on our blog from different perspectives. My younger sister is a college business student. My other sister is a filmmaker/photographer and I am a teacher/makeup artist. We bring our different abilities to create and share our ideas, thoughts and modest dressing with others. I am very proud to be able to do this with my sisters. What sets us apart from others is that we touch base on anything and everything. We find inspiration in a film we just watched, a song we just heard, a story we read or a dress we just bought and we share it with others. We share what we learned in hopes it will speak to our readers and would make an impact like it did to us.

What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
I think one of the biggest barriers we face is the equal treatment, but another big barrier is believing in ourselves. That is the hardest thing. To ignore all the nays and negativity that surrounds us. If we can overcome that than any other barrier will seem small to achieve.
