Conversations with the Inspiring Faith Thomas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Faith Thomas.

Faith, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always loved cooking and baking starting from a really young age. From there, I evolved that love into taking fun pictures and sharing them online. I work as a social media manager for a major record label group at my day job, which I love and it gave me a great understanding of Instagram’s best practices. When you combine all those things together, you get my @actualfoodie project.

Has it been a smooth road?
With social media, in particular, there’s always a fine line between interesting content and “the same old thing.” It’s taken some time for me to perfect my approach and be original but I always try to take high-quality, high-resolution photos of what I love.

My best advice for others is to take what you’re interested in and dive in head first. Focus on what you want, and what you are trying to achieve and work towards it. But also have fun with it, I started my food account because a friend told me I take really good food pictures. I didn’t know that it would grow into what it is today but I’m glad it has!

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I’m known for my food account on Instagram, @actualfoodie. But like I said before, I work as a social media manager so my expertise in engagement, audience growth, and branding are all skills that carry into my foodie project. All of the pictures on my account are original photos, meant to showcase amazing foods that I’ve encountered in my travels. I’ve had the opportunity to have many major national brands repost my photos and ask if they can be used on their official accounts. My favorite was when I worked with Carlo’s Bakery who reached out and asked me to share an original photo using their DIY Lobster Tail kit that can be shipped online nationwide through Goldbelly.

It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
I love listening to a podcast called Live to Eat hosted by Candace Nelson, the founder of Sprinkles Cupcakes. But besides that, a lot of the inspiration for my food account comes from other creators on Instagram, my favorites are @whatninaate and @eastcoastfeastcoast.
