Conversations with the Inspiring Jazmin Marin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazmin Marin.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am like many people that love to pursue something that they absolutely love doing. I was a mere 17 year old teenager, that had know idea who she was. I had an odd reason (honestly, not the most positive reason) for starting out in the phenomenal world of photography. I had applied, and joined the photography classes that my high school offered. I learned a lot, but most of that is a distant memory now. I wasn’t the best photographer. I was actually pretty awful at it, but some how it was something that my heart desired to do. After graduating high school, I didn’t really pursue photography, in fact, I didn’t make the effort to learn, experience, and apply myself. How odd, right? It was about three years ago that I had picked up my camera once more, and decided to make it a part of my everyday life. I was having fun, and enjoyed capturing the world through my eyes. I enjoyed the timeless, and priceless memories that aI capture in my and other’s lives. It made time stand still. When I press down on that shutter button, something magical happens. I don’t quite know how to explain that feeling. I challenged myself every single time I picked up that camera. It isn’t easy for me. I often cried, and wanted to give up this fond hobby of mine. I have awful an eyesight, and often have to take breaks to rest my eyes.

Some days are great, and some are absolutely mortifying. Yet, this is part of who I am. I refuse to give up, and I often try to apply that in every aspect of my life. Photography has given me wonderful experiences, and adventures. It has helped me bond, and develop relationships with people. It’s like my should connects with every individual or subject that I take photos of. I am not very tech savvy, and I don’t know a lot of terminology of the field of photography. I learn with being intentional, and active. Funny enough. It makes me feel a bit inadequate, but I just learned to be patient with myself. We’re our own worse critiques. Slowly within the pass two years, people began to force me to take their money. Haha. Weird, right? They appreciated the work that was being put into taking photos.

You know what helped me grow in that area, the business aspect of photography, people that wanted to build me up. They taught me to come to terms about my self-worth. They helped me build structure to it. They helped me in so many aspects. I am truly blessed for every person that has ever been in front of my camera. It’s all a learning process, and it will continue to be that way for as long as I pursue this passion of mine.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always going to be struggles and that’s okay. You learn from experience, from trials, and from your mistakes. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Don’t beat yourself up. Be patient. Be loving, and compassionate in whatever you do. Accept help, and ask the questions you need to ask. Surround yourself with those who believe in you, and encourage you. Try not to compare yourself to others. Share the wisdom that you have with others because we are supposed to empower those who are around us. Take breaks when you need them. Sometimes, the things that we love to do, tire us out. Nothing wrong with that. It’s not a race. Always get out of your comfort zone, and challenge yourself. Have an open mind, and heart. You don’t know everything, so don’t act like you do. We all have to start from somewhere. For an example, a teacher was once a student. That teacher will continue to learn for the rest of their lives. They will continue to be a student in life. There is always something new to learn. Always stay humble. It’s good for the soul. If you fail, try again. If you want to give up, then push through that. You are closer to your goal than you think. As long as you move forward, you are making achievements. Never let that fire within yourself die out, and if it does… build another fire! As I say these things to you, I am also saying them to myself.

what should we know about Jazmin Marin Photography? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a DFW photographer. What sets me apart from others? Well, first off, I am me. There is no individual that is exactly like me. So, I believe that is a pretty applicable answer. On a more personal note, I don’t take pictures. Let me clarify that. My first objective is to love and serve the people who give me the opportunity to take photos of them. That’s the source of what I do. I want to love, encourage, build up, and bring joy to others. If I can use photography as a tool to achieve that, so be it. I will utilize everything that I am capable to achieve that vision.

Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
Just get out of your comfort zone. Challenge yourself daily and be fearless. You have to work with people, speak to them, be genuine, and share success with those around you. This will require selflessness, but it’s super beneficial to your dream, others, and you.
