Conversations with the Inspiring Jchell Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jchell Jones.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
On April 29, 2013 (my mother’s birthday), God put it on my heart to start my own plus size modeling management company which I named Jones Girls, Inc. Models. It was time for me to do more and help plus size models get the recgonition they deserve. Society does not consider plus size models as “models.” I want to change that and show society plus size models are just as beautiful and talented as our counterparts. Since starting my company my models have participated in several fashion shows, product shoots, music videos, Melissa McCarthy Seven 7, HSN, Forever 21, Good Morning Texas, and published magazines. I have also been interviewed by Heather Hays of FOX 4 News about Elle Magazine’s controversial issue featuring actress Mindy Kaling and about plus size models which helped boost my modeling company and myself.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It started off rocky. I remember when I first started modeling back in 2008/2009, there were not that many plus size designers and most designers wanted the standard size models to showcase their designs. I sometimes had to wear my own clothes because designers did not make an outfit for me to wear for a fashion show. It may have been rocky, but I hung in there hoping to change the thoughts of the designers. Since I have been in the industry, there are now a lot of plus size designers and now that my name and my company’s name is out there it has become easier.

My advice for women and young women is to have a strong will, not to give up. You may hear a lot of “no’s,” but never let that discourage you from accomplishing your dreams. There will be people who will hate on you, but never let them stop you. If I listened to every hater or listened to all the “no’s” I would not be where I am now. I love what I do and helping to encourage a plus size model to grace the runway, I tell God, “Look, I helped another one!”

What should we know about Jones Girls, Inc. Models? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in helping plus size women to have the opportunity to walk on the runway as a plus size model. I am a runway coach training aspiring models ages two and up including men. I am also a model coordinator and a fashion show coordinator.

I am so proud of how many aspiring models I have helped to get started in the modeling industry. It truly warms my heart when people recognize who I am and tell me how much I inspire them.

What sets me apart from others is I was the first all plus size modeling company in Dallas to accept plus size women and teen girls from a size 8 up to a size 22.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
My important advice is to never let a day go by without promoting your brand or yourself. Social media outlets are a very good way for people to notice you. Lol, I’m sure my friends/followers say to themselves, Jchell is always posting something about her company or herself. Trust me, I receive a lot of opportunities just by marketing/promoting myself.
