Today we’d like to introduce you to Jodi Newsome.
Jodi, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am from Kansas City, Missouri. I relocated to Dallas, TX May 2015. I have been in business management for 10+ years. I was recruited off of LinkedIn and currently working for the Dallas Cowboys. On the side, I also consult with small business entrepreneurs with learning how to manage their business from a people and operations perspective. Lastly, I work with my family business of real estate and flipping houses in KC.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road was not easy. Once I received my offer, I had exactly 11 days to move here. Learning about the city and different areas of the metro were definitely hard especially learning all online.
One thing that was very helpful for me was continuing to grow my network on LinkedIn and social media. Following up on growing relationships. Challenging myself to go to events, having a positive attitude and taking risks on myself.
Tell us more about the business.
I love retail and management! My main objective is to make sure people happy and to problem solve any issues from a high-level view. I just accepted an offer for my dream job and it’s something I have been working hard for, for the last year. I’ll be overseeing stores all over the great state of Texas.
One thing that sets me apart from others is I’m always in a positive mood. No matter what adversity or challenges come my way I learn how to figure it out. I have been a mentor and an influencer to many who have questions on how to start or how to continue. I pride myself on being an advocate for all things driven and purposeful.
Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
My mother and sister. I come from a family of entrepreneurs and success. Both my mother and sister are extremely strong-willed. They put God and family first and still can run a successful business with a smile on their face. My mother passed away right before I moved to Texas, she knew this has always been a dream of mine. They give me the strength to push myself past my limits. They will forever be an inspiration.
