Conversations with the Inspiring Maria Paz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Paz.

Maria, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
If Only Today was created back in 2014 while reading Proverbs 31:24, I was in awe. I knew at that moment, I wanted to make a living by creating something with my hands as well as make a difference. If Only Today promises not only quality but transparency when it comes to everything we stand for. A percentage of all our sales will be donated to International Justice Mission (IJM) an organization we strongly support.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think there’s such a thing as a “smooth road” when you start your own business. It hasn’t been crazy hard for me only because I am blessed to have a strong support system. My husband Marvin and my sister Priscilla. Although I have done everything as a one-woman show from the beginning these two play a huge part in my success thus far. My husband, a very logical man, is by my side when I contemplate business decisions. My sister, a very driven woman, always selflessly shares her knowledge and guidance when I need it. I know not everyone has that support system so my one piece of advice for any woman starting a business from scratch is this; be humble and uphold honest ethics throughout your journey.

What should we know about If Only Today? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our online shop launches 12/9! We carry essential accessories for the women and little girls in our life. We plan to expand SOON and including clothing items as well as home decor. One step at a time though! Our ultimate mission is this: We strive to make simple pieces with lasting quality that can effortlessly pair with things you already own all while helping to END SLAVERY. We donate a percentage of our sales to IJM who work to free enslaved people of all ages.

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
My sister Priscilla. Hands down. She is the biggest entrepreneur I know. Not only is she the talented baker behind Que Dulce FW (shameless promo) but she also thought up and started an all-woman pop-up market! She is AMAZING, giving, talented, and selfless. She’s the best aunt my daughters could ever have and the best older sister I could ever want.
