Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin Lindsey.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Robin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always had a passion for photography and it all started with a disposable camera in elementary school. Back then, I would beg my mom to buy me a camera every few weeks and once it was filled with images we’d take it to the store to get it developed. I was always so excited to pick up my photos and lay eyes on them for the first time since those cameras never had a review button. Years passed by and other interests came and went, but photography remained there. It seemed like no matter what I was doing I’d somehow be the unofficial photographer at school and work events, birthday parties, family gatherings, etc. I never thought that photography would be something that I would pursue because I viewed it as an over-saturated market with no room for me. I took a leap last year when I decided to intern at HoneyBeNatural Magazine. From there, I slowly gained the confidence and knowledge and Chasing Angles Photography was born!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
A smooth road to success? I don’t know one. The road to long-term success has never been a smooth one. Before pursuing my photography business I was filled with self-doubt and negative thoughts. What if I wasn’t good enough? Is there room for me in this market? What would people think? What if I never get any clients? I then remembered that I became a photographer because I loved doing it even when it was a hobby, even when my photos were only admired among family and friends and even when it was just a disposable camera. When I start second guessing myself, I remember that there’s a key for every door. The world needs what your offering and you can’t measure your success by what someone else’s path looks like. We all have our journey with its own set of wins and loses. Most of all, remember to have fun!!
What should we know about Chasing Angles Photography? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
“To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place, I’ve found it has very little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.’ – E. Erwitt
I am a photographer. At the moment, I’ve been doing events, portraits and branding shoots. I would love to do more creative shoots and maybe even branch off into concerts. As a photographer, I’m most proud when I have meant or exceeded my client’s expectations! There’s only one me, that’s what sets me apart. I’m still learning my craft and practicing daily. My images are from my perspective and that’s not something you’ll get from any other photographer.
Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
Of course! Growing up, my parents photographed and recording almost everything, mostly against me and my sibling’s wishes. I began being interested early on in elementary which I and my disposable camera became best friends. I would take pictures of my friends, my teachers, neighborhood kids, school dances just about EVERYTHING. I keep all of those pictures in a container and from time to time look at them. I may share them one day.
