Today we’d like to introduce you to Shveta Moller.
Shveta, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
So, you’re probably thinking that because I’m a food blogger, I just LOVE food, right? Shocker moment – I haven’t always loved food. Yup, you read that right. For most of my life, my relationship with food was based on survival and seemed to be more of a chore than a pleasurable experience.
I struggled with anorexia and all those social pressures a girl growing up as a teenager in the mid-90’s would have faced. Don’t get me wrong, I still struggle with body image issues. But, I feel very strongly that however cliché “mind over matter” sounds, it absolutely holds true for my life. With that mentality in mind, four years ago, I went down the path of figuring out what food made me feel icky and which foods nourished me, fed my soul, and made me feel good about myself.
It’s been about that same amount of time since I built a healthy connection with food and developed my refined taste buds. Much of what I enjoy nowadays is what I find nourishing, WHOLE REAL food (unprocessed), in-season, and fresh. You’ll find me at the farmer’s market on Sundays stocking up on fresh veggies or local ranch poultry. We even have our own garden in the backyard to supplement our farmer’s market finds. Of course, I splurge and treat myself, because life wouldn’t be fun without the occasional sweet treat (which must be yummy and chocolate-based)!
One of my life mantras is to follow the 80/20 rule. Live your life the best way you can and eat what your body needs to feel nourished 80% of the time. #TreatYoSelf the remaining 20% of the time so you don’t feel like you’re missing out. I believe knowing what your body needs to feel nourished and be the truest version of yourself is the key to feeling like YOU!
I often times share my perspective and experience with others who feel they’re lacking in ways they can nourish themselves. I started a Health Coaching business to provide support and self-reflection to those who are interested. Through my connection with fellow foodies and friends, I’ve had the opportunity to impart my passion for pretty, bright, colorful dishes as well as self-care and fulfilling careers with many in my network. Surprisingly, I’ve run into so many people who have had the same struggles as me growing up!
I look forward to helping others build a healthy connection with all the ways we feed our soul and have a little fun as well!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Heck no, the journey hasn’t come without challenges! So many! I still have my days where I get frustrated with the way things are in my life, the way I look, not feeling grateful, etc. My advice would be to be gentle with yourself, try to minimize and eliminate the judgment, and take some time to breathe and reflect. It’s amazing what a little bit of “stilling” the mind can do.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into ATX_Bites on Instagram and an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m quite diversified in what I do on a daily basis. While juggling a lot of things might not be everyone’s forte, I thrive when I have my hands on various things/projects. My day job is in Management Consulting. I’ve worked in Healthcare Administration and Consulting for almost 20 years now. My side-hustle is food blogging and social media-related activities. It’s so fun to meet people who can appreciate the perfect food pic as well as actively build relationships with local restaurant owners and chefs. I’ve made so many friends in my adult life because of our similar passions!
I have a baking business on the side because I’ve always loved making chocolate desserts! I also am big into health and wellness and non-toxic products and am an Independent Consultant for Pure Haven and a Wellness Advocate for DoTerra Essential Oils. And as you know, I also have a Health Coaching business. I feel like everything I do is connected though and while it seems like I’m always strapped for enough hours in the day, all of the things that keep me busy bring me tremendous joy!
It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
I frequent WellandGood.com and share articles and tips from there with the company I work for (on our intranet, wellness section). I’m obsessed with Cocokind products and Priscilla (the owner) and her style of sharing her passion and knowledge of safe, natural skin care. Check out the Indian Edit Podcast on iTunes. My friend is the creator behind it and I’ve enjoyed all the podcasts she’s facilitated so far. Ok, this may be old news, but I am so thankful for the app, Unroll.Me. It has totally decluttered my inbox and all of my subscriptions are in one place!
