Conversations with the Inspiring Tiffany Wicks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Wicks.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Tiffany. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started my counseling practice because of my journey through prenatal and postpartum depression. I struggled with so many thoughts and feelings that I didn’t understand how to navigate, and I found it difficult to find a mental health counselor who specialized in maternal mental health. As I began to heal from my experiences, I knew I wanted to support expecting and new moms so other women know they aren’t alone and that it’s okay to receive support and help as they figure out motherhood. I was already a licensed counselor, but a wonderful friend encouraged me to address the need for specialized mental health care by opening this business. In doing this work, Push has become so much more. I want to support women at any and every stage of mothering. No matter where you are in life, I’m here to walk alongside you.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Opening your own business is never easy. I truly believe that the first year is meant to be an uphill climb to test your commitment and stretch you as a leader and person. I’ve learned so much about myself and about how to build a company that meets my moral and ethical standards.

If I could give any advice to anyone starting a business, I’ve found that networking is so important. But networking and handing out business cards is not enough. It’s about the relationship you have with others. I mean long-term, sustainable connections are the backbone of good business. Have coffee or lunch with other professionals. Follow up. It is very hard work and a lot of hustle, but it is so worth it and it will pay off in the end. And, you will have a network of professionals that you can grow with.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Push Prenatal and Postpartum Counseling story. Tell us more about the business.
Push is a counseling and coaching business that exists to support women pre-conception through postpartum (and postpartum is any time after giving birth). I counsel women dealing with infertility, miscarriage, prenatal, and postpartum mental health. In an effort to be accessible, I offer online counseling to accommodate distance, nap times, and any other need. In addition to counseling, I educate my community about perinatal mental health and strategies for coping. I truly love what I do, and I’m grateful to do this work to see women embrace their power, hold onto hope, and become the best person they desire to be.

For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
This is a tough question, because women can do anything and there are so many opportunities opening as the conversation about women changes. I believe the unique opportunity we have is to utilize our strength to impact others. Often, people forget how many things we juggle, because there is an assumption that women should fill certain roles or jobs. Women multi-task, take risks, nurture, validate, create, maintain relationships at a phenomenal level. But our duty is to be the change. Whether it’s simply setting an example in what you’re already doing, mentoring, speaking your truth, or becoming an active participant in advocacy, we impact others around us and the little ones who are learning from us. Our strength and passion can be an inspiration for generations to come.
