Conversations with the Inspiring Veronica Gamboa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Veronica Gamboa.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Veronica. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
For as long as I can remember, makeup has been apart of my life. My Mom started selling Mary Kay when I was about 12 years old and of course has always tried to get me into the business. Selling makeup was never an interest of mine, actually being a makeup artist wasn’t an interest of mine until a few years ago when I began to advance my skills of makeup on myself. I moved to Dallas in the summer of 2015, this is when I really became interested in doing makeup on other people, but never really had the courage to do it. Eventually, I began practicing on my friends and building my kit and started a makeup social media page to showcase my work. I began to post in facebook beauty groups, adding hashtags to all my posts and began to slowly book some appointments. The company Chic Occasion reached out to me when I started posting my work on social media, I began working with them as a Makeup Artist. They are a company that specializes in hair and makeup for parties of 3 or more for any occasion. Making connections through them and meeting other makeup artists have really helped me build my clientele. I also have done some trade for print work, that has helped me make numerous connections with photographers. One, in particular, Heather Meifert (HM Photography & Design), has referred me many clients as well as collabing on a project together and she was one of my first clients for a boudoir photoshoot! Making connections is really the best way to build clients. Eventually, my goal is to expand my business beyond makeup into aesthetics, by completing an Esthetician program in the near future.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wouldn’t say the road has been tough, but I am also a Mom of 2 now and still work full time during the week, it has been challenging. On weekends is when I have time for makeup, so being away from your children is definitely the hardest part, eventually I want to make this a full-time career and I know the sacrifices will be worth it when I am doing something I love to do all the time, that’s everyone’s goal right, making work not feel like work? Struggles just come with building your own business, building clients is tough, especially in a market like Dallas, there are so many incredibly talented artists here. My advice would to other women wanting to get into this industry is to remain authentic, do things for free to get your name out there, challenge yourself to get out there and make contacts with people, post on social media daily, the opportunity for makeup artists in this area is limitless and if you truly love what you’re doing, everything will work out for you. I am still not where I want to be, but I am on my way and the sky is the limit!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Beat By VLynn story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in traditional and airbrush makeup services. I would say at this point most of my work has been bridal and bridal parties, however, I have done full glam to soft barely there glam on my clients. I really try to listen to what my client really wants and create that look for them. I would say I am most proud of how I make my clients feel when I am finished with their makeup, the reactions I get are truly the best, making women feel and look beautiful is an incredible feeling. I try to make my clients feel comfortable when working with me and let them know to trust the process. I think what sets me apart from others is my ability to go from very soft looks to bold glam with ease.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
The most important piece of advice I would give would be if you truly love what you’re doing in this industry nothing can stop you from accomplishing that goal. Working on something every single day to build your business is the key, whether it be learning a new technique or posting a new look on your social media account, every day you need to be working towards your goal. I promise all those hashtags, podcasts, and YouTube videos will make it all worth it.
