Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Brockman III.
Hi Charles, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I am 22 years old and from Plano Texas. I have always been an outgoing person, utilizing my passions and hobbies ranging from marching band, and theater, to sports. I truly feel like I am a renaissance man because I have so many passions and plan on utilizing them all. I’m in my final year of college, running track at the University of Texas at Austin. I competed at the 2020 Olympic trials and have run at the NCAA championship track meet multiple times. I am also a musician that writes songs and a tik toker accumulating 5.5 million followers on the platform. Upon arriving at college, I started to feel like I only could be a student-athlete and didn’t have time for other hobbies. Once quarantine came in 2020 and shut the world down uprooting everything we knew before, it made it easier to tap back into those hobbies and talents that I once pursued such as music and content creation. I started a TikTok account in March 2020 just hoping to bring smiles to people’s faces and after going viral a few times, my following grew tremendously, now it’s become a part of my daily routine creating videos and comedy content in hopes to brighten people’s day.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course not, but nothing worth pursuing is easy. For starters, to take it back to my early college days, I first went to Mississippi state university, and upon two years of attending, I realized that I didn’t fit in and it wasn’t a place for me. It was too far away from home literally but also in the sense that I didn’t even feel at “home” at my university. It was a scary transition but I decided to transfer to the University of Texas and once I got there, I felt more supported and accepted especially when it came to my hobbies and passions because Austin is a very eclectic and an artsy city. Feeling more accepted by my peers, that gave me the confidence to tap back into my hobbies that I kept tucked away for so long. Once I realized that the sky was the limit and there will always be supporters in my corner, it became easier to do what I loved.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a social media content creator accumulating over 5.5 million followers on TikTok, 150,000 on Instagram, and almost 700,000 on YouTube. I am known for my comedy parodies of popular Disney shows and movies. It is not limited to Disney, as I have done other classics like “grease” and “twilight” but I started my parodies mostly recreating funny scenes from Disney movies and I think that’s what people know me most for. I gained popularity after making a parody of “Camp Rock” with Demi Lovato and the Jonas brothers. The best way to describe my “parodies” is that the video typically consists of me showing a scene from a movie first and then the next clip is me recreating the dance moves or funny lines that were said. It started because as I was binge-watching my favorite Disney classics, I realized that they used to look so COOL when my favorite actors did it, but when I did it, or the scenes were taken out of context, it actually looked really silly. But of course, as a child you don’t see the difference. I’ve been doing this since 2020 and I’m super proud of myself for staying consistent and bringing original ideas to a platform such as TikTok where it seems like originality at times is lost. I am one of the ONLY creators that make content like this and people come to my account just because it is so different from others.
What matters most to you? Why?
Happiness matters most to me. In any aspect in life. I am most happy when I’m with my family and just enjoying life, laughing, cooking, singing, and making memories. In anything that I do I have to ask myself does this make me happy? Does this challenge me and make me better? Once I achieved internal happiness, it becomes almost impossible for anyone to take that away from me. I have pride myself on being a leader and not going with the crowd just because it’s popular if it is something that does not serve me in a positive way
