Today we’d like to introduce you to Chef Mark Goldstein.
Hi Chef Mark, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Chef For All Seasonings was started back in 2008 by my mom, Chef Jennie. My mom is an amazing Chef who challenged herself to learn how to create a wide variety of wonderful meals that would fit her client’s needs. When I was in my early 20s, I worked for her for a few months. At the time, I barely cooked
anything for myself. If it wasn’t able to be cooked in the microwave, then it wasn’t for me. That all changed the day after I moved into my first apartment with my now wife, Luisa. We had to save money, and for us, that meant staying home and cooking meals ourselves. YouTube became my best friend. Between learning from my mom and watching people cook on YouTube, I soon began to mimic their meals. Before I knew it, I went from following the exact recipe to expanding my culinary skills and following my mom’s journey. In 2021, my mom was ready to retire. After working with her and her clients throughout the years, it was time for a new chapter. My wife and I are now the owners of Chef For All Seasonings, and we are so proud to continue our family’s legacy.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Even though I liked to cook, I never thought I’d be cooking for anyone that wasn’t family or friends. Anxiety is my double edge sword. “What if they don’t like my food?” What if I’m not as good as I think I am?” It’s these thoughts that try to hold me back from doing more, but at the same time, drive me to make delicious meals and to really think about what I’m doing to make sure that those questions are not true. All my cooking skills and knowledge are either self taught, from books and videos, or from my mom. So, I strive to stand out from others around me that went to culinary school and had classic training. I strive to serve my clients the best modern home-style meals with the best service and care.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a Personal Chef, I’ve learned no two people’s tastes are the same. We pride ourselves in creating healthy, delicious, personalized meals every week for each
client with the best service and care. We also cook the meals right in the client’s own kitchen, then box and label each portion and placed into the fridge. We are like a weekly meal prep that you don’t need to worry about! Is there any better feeling of being able to just heat up a fresh home-cooked meal and have virtually no dishes?
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was very active and had many interests. For many years I played soccer and the piano. I also played baseball, football, fencing, and racquetball. In high school, I became very interested in movies and film and even went to college to study filmmaking and digital video. In between all that I also played many, many hours of video games. Though I don’t have too much time to play anymore I do still get on World of Warcraft when I have some downtime. Music was a constant all the way from jazz to progressive metal. In 2019 I went to my first concert to see one of my favorite bands Avantasia in Chicago. As you can see, my wide variety of likes and hobbies also translate into a wide variety of foods I love to eat and make. I appreciate all types of food cuisines!
