Conversations with Coochie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Coochie.

Hi Coochie, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
My early years were spent with a driven mother who put herself through college as a single parent. Moving house to house, trying to fix up the one after the next, living in one room at a time. I went to 13 different schools I finally left high school. I was an all-around, highly competitive athlete and top of my class but knew there was more for me. I joined the US Army and shipped out on my 17 birthdays during a time of war. During my service, I received a brain injury that caused seizures and other major medical issues. Due to this, I had to have an implant installed to help control the seizures. The procedure did not work and paralyzed my vocal cords. After years of memory issues and vocal issues, I decided to do something about it. With no musical history to date, I picked up a USB microphone and started rapping. Trust me, it Was not good. However, I fell in love with music, and over a year’s time I have found my voice becoming stronger and my memory at a snail’s pace behind it. My mother taught me to never quit on my dreams and never let anything or anyone hold me back. That is just what I plan to do. I will make it in this industry and become a success regardless of my handicaps.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I am a 100 percent disabled veteran with paralyzed vocal cords. seizures and a brain injury… I take over 20 pills a day to function and require a veteran’s administration caretaker.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Not only am I an artist, but I’m also a self-taught engineer! I specialize in vocals which really set me apart due to my unique sound. I am most proud of my perseverance and the fact that I’m self-taught.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I work harder than anyone else every single day, 10 hrs. a day minimum, on music in some way shape or form. It’s hard work that is going to be most important to my success.
